I studied Japanese quite a bit and am considered intermediate. (I used to be better, but the real world happened.)I'm pretty bad at Chinese, but I can read basic hanzi that remain unchanged from when the Japanese borrowed them. UHm, I won't know what you're gonna share until you share it, ha ha.

Nice, I have also studied Japanese for over three years, but I started with Chinese, my grand farther was from Hong Kong so you can see why I started to learn Chinese first. Well one of the things I learned when studding Chinese was that a lot of the characters are made of two parts, the first gives the character's meaning and the second gives its pronunciation, like the character for mother, 媽-ma-(mum) is made up of the characters 女-nǚ-(woman) and 馬-ma-(hours), as you can see, the first character gives the meaning and the second show pronunciation, the same can also be found in 時-shí-(time) 日-rì-(sun) 寺-sì-(temple). This is where a lot of the traditional Han Zi characters get their complexity from which is why Chinese has so meany characters. I have spent about half a year studding the emtymology of Hanzi characters and I have to say it is amazing where these combinations lead. I only brought this up because of when you spoke about the characters loosing their meaning over time and taking on new meaning, I though that this well sort of fit.

Oh, that's neat! I didn't know hanzi worked like that. Considering Japanese wasn't the originl user for them, I really wouldn't have. Thanks for the note!

I could, yes. I was going to stop at around 250 of them, since it's not really used except for some places. But that could help.

Yeah, you could use it for like old or ancient scripts that have a writing system that has been long out grown. Well that's what I am doing with my Asian style con-lang, KaiSho.
