Charles stumbled unsteadily up the hill, waving his arms to keep balance as the mud under his feet slid from
his added weight, and found himself still within the maze. He remembered there was another easier way to get up onto the hill rather than just climbing, but he couldn’t help but suspect the boy knew this already but chose this way anyway. He called out for the boy loudly, hoping he would reply back and assure him he was fine, but of course it wouldn’t be that easy. He peered around again, squinting his eyes at the tousle of his hair in the rough winds and the persistently falling raindrops against his eyelids, but they shot wide open when he was made aware of the small hole in the hedge wall in front of him. He knew behind the hedge wall was an expansive natural forest, and within that forest were large predators; mainly the dreaded rough-furred Bearat.
