Obviously many people have health issues. Kevin's bed was needed for an American student, named Kate, that had a state as serious as Sophie`s (greetings to Oneconfusedkid).
So Kevin had to use Sophie`s bed from now on, but this is not really a problem, as both got along very well with each other, and the loneliness Sophie suffered became better with Kevin directly next to her, for a few days although physical contact was impossible for her. They will have to find a way, as Sophie's depression from isolation became worse again after a few days.

Maybe it is a first step, that they cut two holes in her head cast, so she can better listen to Kevin. I am sure he can tell her a lot about the arts, dos and don'ts of scaffolding.
Another step against her depression from isolation could be physically contact. But I am not sure, if she would like to have someone else finger in her nostrils or eyes (or ears).
Perhaps some cast windows at the right spots could help her.
