Description

I have been wanting to do this since ages! It took me weeks to complete it, but here it is. A seasonal color chart according to Carole Jackson’s Color Me Beautiful.

Ever since I first read it, Color Me Beautiful has been a permanent source of inspiration for me, in my choices for clothes and make-up. Although I’m not a purist, I generally follow her advice for my season (in my case, Summer.) I tend to identify people’s seasons as soon as I see them, and it’s not usual diversion for me to mentally figure people’s seasons on the tube, for example.

In the years, there has been more sophisticated types categories, bringing them up to 12 or even 16 seasonal charts, but I’m not familiar with them, so I won’t mention them here.

Winter is by far the most widespread season. From wikipedia :

Dominant skin tones (an individual’s skin may include more than one): “Very white”, “White with delicate pink tone”, “Beige (no cheek color, may be sallow)”, “Gray-beige or brown”, “Rosy beige”, “Olive”, “Black” (blue undertone)”, “Black (sallow)”.

Although there are PoC belonging to other seasons, the wast majority of people with olive- and darker- skin tone belong to Winter, as well as almost any person with black hair and very dark eyes. They are the only season allowed to wear pure black and pure white, as well as electric blue, magenta, ecc.

Summer people show:

Dominant skin tones: “Pale beige with delicate pink cheeks”, “Pale beige with no cheek color (even sallow)”, “Rosy beige”, “Very pink”, “Gray-brown”, “Rosy brown”.

Summer and winter people should avoid yellow-based colours and make-up, as well as use silver- or white-gold based accessories. (Diamonds anyone?)

As for Autumns,

Dominant skin tones: “Creamy ivory”, “Ivory with pale golden freckles”, “Peach”, “Peach/pink (may have pink/purple knuckles)”, “Golden beige”, “Rosy cheeks (may blush easily)”, “Golden brown.”

Autumns usually have an easy time finding their clothes, since brown- and beige- based colours are very common.

Spring is the most bright and light of all Seasons, although they might have a lot of troubles finding winter clothes in their colours.

Dominant skin tones: “Ivory”, “Ivory with freckles (usually redhead)”, “Peach”, “Peach with freckles (usually golden blonde, brown)”, “Golden beige (no cheek color, needs blush)”, “dark beige, coppery”, “Golden brown.”

OMG--I forgot about this book!  One of my friends had a "Color Me Beautiful" party in college and I was told that I was a Spring.  That surprised me since I thought that I was a Summer.  I'm still not 100% certain to this day, but the Autumn and Winter colors look terrible on me!

I adore that book! Yes, there are blendings between the seasons, and that's why other researchers after Carole Jackson introduced the 12 Seasons charts - but basically I believe the 4 Seasons could be a good start. If yellow- (beige, orange) based colors don't look good on you, you are probably a Summer too. Especially if you have rosy cheeks.
