Description Another old illustration from 2006, which now is my laptop desktop ^^

During Gormenghast's flood, Titus Groan patrols Gormenghast's recesses chasing the arch-traitor, Steerpike, who is accused of the murder of Flay. From Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy.

Acrylics and oil on canvas. April-June 2006.

Oops just spoiled myself a little. Never did like Steerpike, one of the most hateful character I've ever read xD

I love all the little details you put in the painting that only Gormenghast fans can appreciate (the book of rituals, the half-sunk crown, the slingshot in Steerpike's hand...). An your Steerpike is...simply fantastic!

Thank you *blushes*. Yes, I went very canon with my Gormenghast pictures. I feel the appeal of Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, but Steerpike is ugly indeed, and I've always tried to depict him following Mervyn Peake.

The water made me go mad! I did it over and over again for... I don't know how many times. Since the results with acrylics didn't satisfy me, I added oils and then worked on it for weeks.

I know what you mean... I love acrylics, better than oils... but my oils where like 2 and I did themi in one shot!!! I don`t like the smell and mess of oils, I prefer acrylics!

I don't have a good relationship with acrylics. Of course I use them, but I scarcely have the feeling of mastering them. They dry too quickly, not letting the time to do shades.
Oils are much more difficult, but maybe there is more satisfation in using them than acrylics.

I have a special palette for them with a paper and wet cloth underneath and also something to retard drying... that way I can work on them like oils.... oils stink!!!! and the mess. they are sooo expensive too! My compliments really!
