Description After buying some bottles at the trade fair two days back...

Finally a good way to show some precious claws in my collection.
So much fun to search for the really small bits to show them in a cabinet

I understand that these are part of an art piece (a very beautiful one at that!), but I would like to remind everyone how these are collected. When cats are declawed, not just the claw itself but the entire first joint as well are removed. It is a painful healing process, and many cats toes do not heal properly, which leads to sores and walking problems. Imagine trying to go through life with the first joint of all you fingers and toes cut off. Walking would be awkward and balance would be more difficult to maintain. You couldn't itch yourself or pick up delicate things like pieces of pencil lead or needles. It would be an embarrassing and uncomfortable disability. I understand that cats do not feel emotions in the exact same way we do, but I am sure they can feel the pain, both physical and emotional, that comes with unnecessary bodily mutation.

pardon my intrusion...
in the majority of places, when declawed, those claws do not go to the general public ever. they are discarded as remains or kept for study.
otherwise, it would be considered "poaching" and we both know how that is received in majority of countries.

I do agree however that it IS cruel but please do notΒ  go around saying misleading information for your cause. it doesn't end well when you run into someone educated on the subject.

I understand that most claws from declawed cats never see the light of day, so I took this rare opportunity to explain how the process works. I am not part of PETA, or any animal organization for that matter, but that doesn't mean I don't care about the creatures of this Earth. I watch this account because taxidermy and collecting animal skeletons is a tradition in my family, a tradition I would like to continue. I trust that these specimens are collected humanely, but I just wanted to remind people that not everywhere has that policy, and to think about where specimens come from, especially if they are rare.

just because it happens sometimes doesn't mean it has to be generalized as "let me remind everyone how these are collected"
it says that you are saying a majority of *insert thing* is done this way.

I was not accusing you of peta or anything.

one can care about the earth and animals and not immediately use generalized statements to start off their point of view.
it just sounds... meh, yanno?

I'm truly sorry that my statement seems to have offended or confused you. However, I am not sorry for sharing uncommon knowledge with other people. If they read my comment, and already know about declawing, then great! It's good to be informed. If they read my comment and they didn't know about how cats are declawed, then they only come away wiser. Maybe it will help them make a kinder decision about their cats, if they decide to get any in the future. My comment was not meant to seem hateful, self righteous, or anything like that, and it is just a comment, involving a little description and my personal opinion on a procedure that is performed on cats.

I love them
It is a pity that I don't have a proper way to display them with my bigger claws as comparison.

But well, bottles are fun so this will work
