This 2 second scene got stuck in my head, and after all this years, this is the result.It would be a fitting punishment for a crazy town girl rambling about monsters and enchanted castles.
It kind of shows how my mind works when I am watching a movie. I subconciously think about possible bondage scenarios within the story.
I changed the pillory to a more simplified 2 post structure. The original was too thick and would have covered part of Belle´s figure.
a couple of variations were planned, (messy hair, princess hair, princess dress and no dress) but got scrapped in the process. Only the seminaked kind of survived but didn´t got to finish it because I didn´t decide which kind of underwear was worn in that time period. Dumb. very satisfied with the look and feel close to the movie scene it is based on.

Gaston was going to appear in the background and maybe even with Lefou. But the pic didn´t needed more elements to transmit the idea. Also gaston is planned to appear in a couple more Belle pics, so he will have his time to shine.

Looks like the townspeople finally got tired of all that darn reading that Belle had been doing! "We can't have our young women educating themselves, after all! *grumble* belong in the kitchen *grumble*"
Sad to hear about the princess dress variant being scrapped. Belle's golden gown is far and away my favorite Disney dress.

The princess dress felt out of place in this setting.
I had to juggle my layers, just to give you an idea.
belle´s hair variations (3) were on top, then belle´s -bald- head face and hands, then the pillory stock (3 variations), then her blue dress, then her princess dress, then her skin layer, then the base, andt then the background. Still with me? each of these layers had a flat color layer and additional shadow and light layers, and a lineart layer on top, so they could be modified independently and switched on an off.
That becomes a very complex and tiring memory excercise, so that is why sometimes I just decide to drop some of my variations, and stick with the original concept instead of the variations.

I'm not an artist, so a lot of what you're writing sails over my head. And I've always been a huge fan of Belle in her princess gown, particularly in bondage and/or peril. That said, I think you were right to pick the peasant outfit here - it really works much better in this context. Just my two cents. Again, fantastic job - thanks so much!

I do have some experience with detailed art with layers much like you describe (not as an artist, but as an editor), so I totally get why that could end up being complicated. But I'm wondering; do you use layer groups? That seems like it would greatly simplify the issues that come up when doing multiple variants. It's how I managed to keep track of my edits to this monster:
It has layers just like you described (lineart, flat colors, lighting, shadows, etc), with each character having their own set of those layers. Editing that image with those hundreds of layers wasn't really bad at all, because CDRudd created it with a layer group for each character.

yes I used grouped layers, but I find it faster to not group them, it is kind of easier for me to just scroll up or down on my layers instead of expanding and collapsing groups.
More a personal preference. I use an average of 40 layers for each pic.
I Dont Know how people can work with one or two layers.

Have you ever tried using the Move tool's right-click menu to change layers? I find it dramatically easier to transition between layers with that, rather than guessing which layer the thing I want to edit is on while scrolling through the layer listing.
