23? That's fantastic! You're a true snake lover. Do you breed them?
Let me ask you, when you go to take them out of the cage to be handled, how do you do it? I've handled two other kinds of snakes (smaller) and they just allowed me to reach in and, gently, pick them out. If it involves a cage and a small creature, I, usually, ask. But since reptiles are different from hamsters and ferrets... When I lived with her, I loathed cleaning out the cages to my cousin's hamsters and ferrets... I'd get attacked. =_= Each and every time. It's like those kind of creatures have something against me.
Anyway, since you seem to know a great deal about snakes and have way more experience with them, I hope you'll let me come to you with any questions, when I get mine?

I do, this upcoming year should be our first year producing ball pythons. We actually have a redtail boa and a Brazilian Rainbow that are *hopefully* due soon!
As for handling ball pythons, as long as they haven't eaten too recently, or are due to eat, I let them know I'm there, and then just pick them up. We let them have 72 hours to digest after eating, and the babies eat weekly, so there're only a few days a week that we CAN handle them freely, without fear of them regurgitating or having tummy problems.
But basically, I slide their tub out of the rack, and very gently take the hide out and let them "wake up" a bit, and realize that I'm there. THEN I calmly and slowly reach in and gently pick them up. They might ball up at first, but as long as you're not startling or scaring them, they typically unball and start exploring and interacting with you in just a few minutes.
We have one ball python in particular, Tigger, my little pastel, that just senses me coming. Anytime I walk into the reptile room, he's out of his hide and itching to come out. If you slide his tub out, he'll slither right out immediately up your arm and sit on your shoulder, he's SO COOL! He's totally ready for anything, lol!
I'm always on, so if you have any questions at all, don't hesitate! I love snakes, they're totally one of the best pets you can have!

Thanks so much! I'm completely head over heals for ball pythons. We're up to nine now, plus one little lone incubating egg! It's almost a full house!

Thanks! I love it when places will let you handle the animals, that way you know they've all gotten a good amount of interaction.
I've always liked the term Royal Python a little better than ball python, it's so odd that there're two different names for them!

BABY!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a sucker for baby snakes.. and elephants.. and tigers.. I think ball pythons are sweet hearts, might not be everyone's choice of phrase to describe them but I think they're sweet. It's so cool how each pattern on their bodies are like fingerprints. I mean, it's the same for all animals, but it's more distinctive on ball pythons.

Personally, I find ball pythons to have the most personality outta all the python species. There's a pitbull next door to me that's also like this. Funny dog, always gets loose and has that "very bad idea" attitude afterwards. But keeps on escaping. I love dogs but sometimes they're complete idiots.
