Description Original design by: Hipgnosis and George Hardie 1973
This is a re-design i did at school for the great Pink Floyd album 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'.
In case you're born yesterday, or have been living under a rock for the last years, and you never have seen the original cover, here it is: [link]

I know the white light beam is only a thin line, but I wanted it to be more dynamic, kind of giving a perspective to it.
I used the colors from an image of the original cover, to fill the other 'stripes', that way I hope I could keep the old colors but give a new look, although colors vary from scan to scan. I think they turned out great that way.

Tools: Photoshop 7, monitor, computer, keyboard, mouse, hand, brain.... yada yada yada (this is the last time I do this gag with the tools, I promise)

anyway, i'm ready for your comments, so bring 'em on!!!
btw, thanks for reading the crap i write. Full View is much better.

This one out of the 3 is the best, probably because its closest to the original concept.

its interesting. some people preffer the one farther from the original because its farther from the original.
you like this one beacuse its closer. .. very interesting to read diferent opinions!
thank you!

Yeah, just the original concept with the white light hitting the prism and going into the multi colored spread, makes the others makes it look like it has nothing to do with the Pink Floyd concept that went with the songs...

yeah, its the deconstruction of light. but if i wanted to make soemthing new and fresh, it coudn't be like the original. so i started moving away from it. thanks a lot!

Ah!
One of the best albuns from them
I got it in vinyl, original CD and the kinda-new 5.1 surround edition CD

anyways, I like what you've done here, I mean, it's great to see a tribute to this

I'll tell you a story guy. in 1977 I was in a store in the middle of nowhere in Corsica. Imagine the place... everything from oil lamps, incest kits and chewing tobacco.

I noticed a few records ( that's what we used to call those vinyl things ) in a corner and started perusing them.
How weird was it that in the middle of the pack of people I had never heard of ( sort of Sergio Caravagio.. et al ) I found a copy of DSOTM... blew me away!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Caddielook In reply to mickeblue [2005-01-25 12:45:18 +0000 UTC]

That's way cool!!
btw, i know what a record is!
I've got some that were from my father, mother and uncle... Led Zepelin, Beatles, Supertramp, Alan Parsons Project, Ramones (rocket to russia!!) and so on... i love the sound of vinyl, although my player is currently broken... damn!

thanks for sharing the story!

Hmm, I dunno... you kind of can't touch the old design. I mean... it's Pink Floyd, man.

Despite that, I appreciate that you put thought and time in it. Well done.
