Speaking of discriminatory attitudes, what does it say about assuming that the brash, forthright female character who wears slacks, comfortable shoes, and brandishes a weapon that would make The Governator envious, has to be a dyke? Just sayin', because in my younger fandom days that is exactly what would have been said about Coco, unless she dressed like Miss Fanservice. My own feelings on the matter is that Coco could really give a rat-grimm's ass about what other people have to say, because she is the person who will define what they will say. And it will be all for the good, of course! At this point I don't really care, since I have really wanted a CFVY subplot for 3 seasons now, and if this means they get their own book deal, I am ready for it!Β

Weiss & Coco are those young women who grew up wearing heels and being conditioned to spend much of the day in them. This didn't used to be such a deal with fashion-conscious women. (Watch Doris Day & Donna Reed cleaning house & prepping supper in pumps & you get the idea.) It's a fashion thing, and we men no longer get it. (Heels for men's formal footwear appeared in the late 16th century & disappeared in the early 19th century, with the exception of dressy cowboy boots.) But watching a woman who knows how to move in heels strut along is an admirable sight.Β Β

Honestly, it's a YA tie in novel, so it could go either way. I'm hopeful, though. The manga tie-in was really good, so hopefully they communicate the same with this author and do something significant.
