We wuz robbed in Volume 6!! Nah, not really, it wasn't her time yet. Story-wise I'm glad that she didn't show up right after Weiss decided to stand on her own two feet and fully commit to RWBY. (Your pictures of Weiss say it all these days.) Winter will probably be the edge that Weiss needs to get an edge and let Our Heroes save the day at the last minute. Plus I am hoping for the return of Snowbird shenanigans, my forlorn hope of ships, now that Qrow is out of his funk, on the wagon, and soon to be back to his snarky bad-boy independent self. (All it will probably take is one meeting with General Ironwood and/or Jacques Schnee.) We need another old school flirt-fight to wow the young 'uns and show them how it's done.

Oh, I can't wait! Winter's going to bring all kinds of drama along with her! Especially since Atlas is going to bring so much of Weiss's family drama, she loves her sister but she can't be too happy about being abandoned in that house.
And another Snowbird fight would be awesome, especially since it would probably mean fighting Ironwood.

After listening to Miles & Kerry talk about the need to kick plot cans down the road in order to make sure the main story got the allotted time, some loose ends in the earlier volumes made sense. The duel between Qrow and Raven was to me an action version of the spark-striking quarrels that characterized the romantic comedy of manners, which went all the way back to Shakespeare in pedigree. Obviously some follow-up was required as to why Qrow started it; his semblance be damned, he knew that he was baiting Winter, who would take said bait in a steel bite. And Winter gets presented as a tightly wound kuudere instead of an expressive tsundere like Weiss, so we'd like to know how Qrow could push her buttons so well. Maybe next season....
I am worried about James Ironwood. He is in a difficult command position, keenly aware that the enemy has the strategic initiative, with a civilian leadership seemingly deliberately ignorant of the crisis, and no doubt aware that the next defeat on his watch will be his last, and if he is lucky that disaster will not take Atlas with it. That sort of pressure has ruined men of less resolute character than him, and we've already seen that the situation has taken its toll on him. Qrow's letter has probably given him fair warning, but further news won't make things any better. I hope Winter and RWBY + will save him from becoming a tragic hero, but it is probably a vain hope.

I saw a theory that said Qrow's whole reason for provoking Winter was because she was the only unknown element in the room when he gave his report to Oz and co. The rest of the room he could trust, but as a spy himself he could not trust her to not be.
I hope Ironwood gets a redemption arc, but I wonder how far he'll go before we get there. And I hope he doesn't go heroic sacrifice with it, but it may be a way to clear the way for Winter to take charge.

That was a good explanation for it, and I am sure that is what Uncle Qrow would have told his adorable nieces if they had bothered to ask him. Maybe. I don't see Ironwood as needing a redemption arc, as he is not a bad man, but he seems intent on making a couple of bad decisions. At least he is trying to do his job, and could probably use the aid of some just-arrived heroes. Exactly how that gets done is where the fun story bits come in. Now that I think of it, his reaction to least-favorite agent Qrow and Ozpin-possessed Oscar showing up to his door ought to be a real Kodak moment.

That's kind of what I mean by "how far he'll go" before the redemption arc. I've been feeling since vol 2 that his idea of what's right will be twisted before the series is over, especially with him isolating Atlas, and Glynda said that he'd do what he thinks is right now matter what. I'm assuming a fair bit, but it's where I see things going.

That will be part of the story, yeah, along with Weiss having to deal with the family, and wondering when Cinder & Neo will show up to cause trouble ahead of the flying Grimm horde. Beacon and Haven were infiltrated ahead of the main strike, so there is a pattern. Maybee Ironwood can be made to see it and take the right action. Good guys are still stuck on defense, waiting for the attack to come, and that will be a problem whether or not the Tin Man comes through.

I'm still waiting for her return, and I have a feeling we might see the more powerful of her summoning skills.

She was pretty damn impressive during that last white trailer, I'd love to see her hunting with a summoned pack.

I've always wondered if she'd be a leading from the front type with a horde of summons and then other specialists backing her up

It makes sense. I imagine Winter would be best as the tip of the spear. Sudden burst of action to destroy defenses while they're unprepared and, once she's exhausted those powers, her backup comes in to do the rest of the job. If she's anything like Weiss she's an amazing support.

And I wonder how long she can keep up the summons, especially a whole pack. XD
Hope to see a Summon Manticore or a Sphinx.

Hear, hear! Let's just kill a giant sea monster first. If that won't convince that old hag to change her mind, nothing will.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the latest episode. I loved pretty much everything about it. I just sincerely hope that they won't pull another Cinder, but luckily that seems very unlikely. Adam has no magic and his wounds were not magical either.

That seemed pretty definitively dead. One of the animators was giving a shoutout to the people who animated his "death scene" so I think he's gone. Cinder just kinda fell into darkness, nobody who falls into darkness in fiction is actually dead. And what a fucking death scene it was! That whole fight was phenomenal. I love that the kill wasn't a happy occasion, I love that Adam had that moment of recognition, I love that Yang had her Semblance moment, and I've been waiting for her to hit Adam with her bike for years! This vol 6 is really delivering for me!
I'm actually loving Ruby's attitude this whole volume. She's still got her goofy side, but the amount of times she's stepped up to deal with the situation, from the train to this episode, have been just spectacular. She went from vol 3 of "Just tell me how to help" to "Alright, I'll deal with the giant robot, quit holding me back" and I love it.

I agree, the fight was amazing, and I think you're right. I was desperately hoping that Adam wouldn't fall in the river after getting a final blow, but since he's partly based on Gaston, of course he had to fucking fall. Still, even though Blake and Yang can't now burn his corpse or anything, I daresay he's really dead. Seriously, if he survived, it would be bullshit (pardon the pun). I had a feeling Adam had outlived his usefulness as an antagonist, and I'm thrilled that the writers felt the same way. The White Fang was finished and his allies had abandoned him, so his only remaining goal was getting revenge against Blake. He gave it his best shot and failed, so there was absolutely no reason to keep him alive anymore. I never liked Adam, but hopefully his death is the spark that will finally bring the Bees together. I LOVED that he already seemed to consider them a couple during the fight. XD
Oh yes, Ruby's been great. I'm pretty sure that she will be the most important character to play her part in saving Argus. I actually didn't expect a final Grimm boss fight in this volume, but I probably should have seen it coming - the way Cordovin had a tantrum in her giant toy and scared everyone in the city, plus the Relic still being out in the open, of course the Grimm were attracted. What do you think, will anyone die or will Ruby stare all the Grimm to ashes like it's nothing?

I hope I don't have to watch another Nikos die...
Thing is, apparently the next episode is the last of the volume (unless I've missheard) so I don't see enough happening for a major character death to go through. I kind of think Ruby's going to save the city and gain a name for herself, and the next couple volumes we'll start seeing the fallout of that. She really doesn't have her own drama at the moment, so it would be good timing.
But I also think Ruby's job will be the big Grimm, it knocked her out to do that in Beacon. The military and our heroes will have to deal with the rest.

I think some people will give Ruby shit for disabling the robot and thus being responsible for all the damage the Leviathan will cause before it's killed. How's that for her own drama?

Cadhla182 In reply to SeriousJupiter [2019-01-21 00:09:48 +0000 UTC]
If she fails to save the city, absolutely. But if she succeeds then public opinion turns on Cordo for using the giant monster fighting gun to attack a little girl and ultimately losing.
The issue is with run time, I don't think there's enough time in the volume to really explore a heavy loss like that, but they've set up Ruby starting to understand her eyes. They've also kind of set it up for Ruby to be the only chance anyone has, almost everyone's aura is gone and everyone's a little hurt.
