Description Trying to do artistic shots with stuff I have inside is hard.

Ok, I admit I'm kind of straight up pandering here. I started this because I wanted to make a filly RD, but then I wanted to add an accessory of some sort. That's when the cuteness got cranked to 11.

RD is made of super sculpey, painted with acrylics, and sealed with matte spray. She sits about 3 inches tall. She'll be available at Bronycon, so be sure to stop by the booth.

Practice! I can't even imagine the amount of hours I've spend sculpting ponies.

um, sorry for asking so many questions, but... once you take the pony's head off, how do you put it back on?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CadmiumCrab In reply to silvazeshadouge [2012-06-22 18:56:15 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, can't answer that one as I've never done a rehairing (which is the main reason to remove a pony's head). Try someone who does rehairing customs on DA, they should have an answer for you.

then how did you replace the hair with clay?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CadmiumCrab In reply to silvazeshadouge [2012-06-23 13:43:30 +0000 UTC]

I removedthe hair by cutting it really short and using cuticle cutters to cut/pull out as much as I could. If you do hair rerooting, you need to remove the head so you can get all the hair out and so you can put the glue in there that holds the hair in place.

OK, what the actual buck? This really should be marked with some kind of disclaimer. Something like, β€œMay cause early onset diabetes”, or β€œSome have been known to explode, into stardust, glitter, and rainbows, as a result of viewing this”. Just want to avoid any potential law suits.

Is sculpey cheap? I've been wanting to get into sculpting, but everyone keeps telling me it's a super-expensive hobby

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CadmiumCrab In reply to fivedollarponies [2012-06-05 02:53:10 +0000 UTC]

Sculpey isn't too bad, you can get it at Michael's and use a 40% off coupon which is what I do. You may need to invest in other stuff besides the the clay though, like sculpting tools, paint, brushes, etc. That's where you're most likely to encounter expenses. Keep en eye on sales at stores like Michael's or AC Moore to get the most bang for your buck as that stuff goes on sale all the time.

You can use any type of acrylic paint, just nothing oil based or spray paint.

ah makes much sence again there amazing is sculpey easy to use? i never had any

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CadmiumCrab In reply to Chibi-Katie [2012-06-02 03:24:19 +0000 UTC]

It's pretty simple to use and you can bake it in the oven without shrinkage. There's 4 kinds of sculpey, so you can experiment with what works best for you. I like the super sculpey for larger projects and colored sculpey 3 for smaller stuff that I don't intend to paint. I stay away from the cheap original sculpey and the harder to use sculpey firm.

CadmiumCrab In reply to Chibi-Katie [2012-06-02 03:32:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I can definitely recall seeing the colored stuff there but I'm not sure of the other varieties. Stores like Michael's, AC Moore, and Hobby Lobby will have it for sure.
