There has been some drama in the Winx community lately (it has been going on for years, but it's coming to another rise at the moment) - I'm in no way involved in this, but as "old" part of the community I feel responsible to speak up for newer members who might not be able to defend themselves properly. There have been several personal attacks on newer members, claiming that those members stole certain colour combinations. I'm not going to drop any names, but if you're in the community, you probably heard of that before. I'm not a defender of copying or stealing, but the use of colour combinations is a whole different topic which I think shouldn't become such a big deal after all.

Before insulting or attacking a community member, ask yourself: did this person purposely "steal" the exact values to cause you harm? Or are they just trying to have fun, trying to learn new things and living out their creativity? Is your colour combination really complex enough to call it unique? And if you still think someone is "stealing" from you, how about just using a neutral tone to ask the person how they came up with the colours or kindly state a worry that your character might look very similar? There's always a way to talk calmly and let me stress: bitching at people does not solve any problems. Be the bigger person, explain your reasons neutrally, make people understand. When you started out on dA, were you re-drawing other people's work? Certainly. Did you get inspired by other people? Certainly. We should be more inclusive to newer members of the community and protect them from leaving again right away. Who knows, a year down the line they might have improved a whole lot, so don't take this chance from them by demotivating them right off the bat. dA can be a scary place, don't make it one. The Winx community will always contain younger members and we should strive to set a good example for them. We should welcome them and help them improve, not shit on them and call their works a copy. Just... don't be a dick, you started out as a beginner as well Help them take care of flaws, improve their art and come up with their own ideas. Be supportive, not destructive! Use your skill and knowledge to help people grow ♥

The point was creating a character with roughly the same palette (we agreed on the blue & pink palette beforehand) and then watching them turn out unique. We all used the same hair-colour combination, but we each made it our own and twisted it to match our style. Remember that colours do not define a character alone - there are shapes, stories, details and many things more which make a character. Even if you use the same "ingredients", everyone will cook their own dish from them, because everyone is unique.

"Our aim today is to spread creativity and freedom. In most of the fandoms or even generally we see some characters that are called "Mary Sues". We believe no matter what, your creativity is precious and beautiful. We all have and had Mary Sue characters and we are NOT ashamed on them. Those characters improve in time and turn into original characters with great backgrounds and designs. The person who draws a "Mary Sue" may be a beginner, may be experimenting or they may like to draw these characters. None of us have the right to attack those people, yet we can criticize them as we can criticize everone in the proper way. Mary Sues don't have to be so bright and colorful either. Also not every pink-blue haired princess character is a Mary Sue.

There is also another problem that concerns most of us. Addition to the subject that is metioned above, people can't own colors. You can't simply ask you whole fanbase to attack an individual that has a tinier fanbase than you in any way, claiming that person used a color or element that you used for your character. Suicide because of depression caused by the internet is a real thing. Yes, one may claim that the bullied person can just turn their computer off but remember that not all of us are experienced much and are adults. So in whatever fandom you are or even if you aren't in one, do not harrass someone because that person used a color that your original character has in their palette. Same for inspiration. You actually can't help getting inspired by someone. That is impossible. To do that, you should stop trying new things and draw only one thing but even then, you will eventually get inspired by someone. This is how creativity and style works. You can create any character you want, it might resemble other characters but they are all going to be unique because every creator is different as well. So remember that the value a character has is the value the creator gives. And attacking others publically because of such little problems doesn't make you look great, it only makes the bullied person feel awful. So don't bring up such subjects that can be solved through notes."
