Description So, I've been wanting to do a piece with a Mario Brothers Piranha Plant for a while and couldn't think of what to do. Than, when shopping for wood for other projects I bumped into this piece of wood and I just saw the image on it already. So here she be. It's entirely wood burnt. And I gotta point out that this piece...considering it was all done with the woodpen...took forever.

Here's what played in the DVD player while making this. Bare in mind I didn't stop till I was done, not even to sleep...

Die Hard
Die Hard with a Vengence
Wayne's World 2
Battle Royale
5 Episodes of Mr. Show

My god, I'm fucking tired. Haha. Off to bed.

I could teach you. No joke. If you actually hand drew the stuff in your gallery you have what it takes.

I was a teacher for a few years and I had this rule. No tutorial books. I hated going off a sheet. I like teaching people more one on one since everyone learns differently.

Actually, there's not a lot of tools required. A couple years ago I was dumped pretty hardcore and found myself living alone. When I had fits of loneliness but no one to hang out with I would just wonder around in random stores. One day, in an art store I saw they had woodburning pens for $15 and I saw that the planks of wood averaged $1-$7. I figured, "this will keep my mind off life." And it did. Haha.

Dude... excellent... the only critique is mayhaps a better camera and/or taking your pictures in better light. Maybe outside? Many of your picture seem to be taken at night? The only reason I say so is because they are awesome and I wish to see them a little crisper. Awesome subject choices.... this, Gir, Venture Bros. Great!!!

Haha, believe it or not, most pictures are taken during the day, the problem is I'm extremely poor and for the last year have gotten by with the light from my TV and a single bulb in the three bulb lamp. Not kidding. But I haven't considered the outside idea. For someone as used to adapting as I am I seem to constantly forget that nature has this awesome high quality photo bulb outside for me to ride the coat tails of. I should do that.

FUCK YEAH no Die Hard 2, because it's the worst of the lot! XD

Thats simply genius, I salute you mate!
Seriously, the detailing in that is like... Woah.

caffiend In reply to Naixoa [2008-05-30 07:56:22 +0000 UTC]

Well my dear that is because I'm like...woah.

Anyways, yeah, Die Hard 2 sucked. FUN FACT! Die Hard 1 and 3 were both based of characters from a book called Nothing Lasts Forever. Well 1 was and 3 was the sequel to it. 2 was actually based of a book called 58 minutes that was decidedly really boring so they thought switching the main character with John Mcclane would make it better. This is like trying to stop Christians from protesting an abortion clinic by putting up a big statue of Buddy Christ who's wearing a t-shirt that says, "chill, I said it's cool."

....my god, that was the most beautiful imagery my life has ever cooked up. Thank you for the inspiration. I know just the person to draw this. :-D

Holy crap, that's in-freaking-credible. I wouldn't have the patience to do such a work of art, especially in one long session. Wow.

Long live the NES!

Haha, thanks man. But if it's art you love you don't need the patience. If you're making something and it feels right you shouldn't get bored with it. If you're making something and you're bored and not excited about it, you should probably just scrap it and make something else.

Haha! That's great! Absolutely wonderful piece, really shows off your shading. It's so wild that you get it so even and then stick with it for hours. I'd cramp up so badly. Keep it up!

Wow, at first glance at the thumbnail, I thought it was intarsia! Quite cool. Afraid I don't have any critique to offer you.

caffiend In reply to Falco-sparverius [2006-05-25 09:11:00 +0000 UTC]

Really? Not only am I impressed by your knowledge of the word intarsia (I got erked when people call it wood piecing or other such names) but I definatly appreciate the fact that my shading was defined enough to make it stick out like such. Thank you.
