I made this cake for the 2011 Iowa State Fair. The top tier is hand painted with edible food paint. The second tier consists of over 300 diamond shaped pieces of fondant painstakingly placed one by one. The bottom tier is just a simple black stripe of fondant. The magnolias are made out of gumpaste.Result: 2nd place in category

Thanks! I used a thick central support pole that kept the layers from tipping over. While this cake is Styrofoam, in real cake I would have used plexiglass under the cake layer so the suspended portion of the cake wouldn't fall off.

I love it, u did the opposite order of a traditional 3 tiered cake, u did a phenomenal job, kudos on the hardwork, especially the tier w the fondant diamonds, that takes true patience
