Description I don't really even know if this should be in the tutorial section since I don't really go into a lot of detail. It's basically just to show how I go about doing colors. Hopefully it'll help someone out.

EDIT: I'll add a bit of extra stuff, as per people's comments.
For my colors, I use Photoshop 5.5 and a Wacom tablet.
On step 5 I messed up. I actually use a hard-edged airbrush for blending, not feathered.
The brushes I use are whatever comes with the program. Just click on the tool (paintbrush or airbrush) and, in the brushes pallette, just choose the hard-edged circles.

This is really handy, thanks!

One question though - do you go over your pencils in PS with a brush or just make the lines darker using levels, etc?

I used your tutorial this weekend
The results were better than I expected
I'm a traditional artist if I cannot do it by hand it can't be done kind of approach to drawing.
I have been meaning to try my hand at the digital media this was a great starting point. thank you very much for this tutorial

This is wonderful. Coloring faces digitally has always been a roadblock for me - I'm lost when there're so many choices for skintone. Often, I'll choose a greyish tone for shadows and the character will look like he or she just arose from the grave. Very frustrating, especially after hours of burning your eyes out for it. Thanks for the tutorial.

Oh yeah, and I like how she looks took. Sexy Asian.

u rock! i still cant get the hang of the blending, but i think that is due to cretin-like behaviour with the program... lol thanks anyway!!!

Nice tutorial. I'm gonna try this technique. I agree with the person that commented about not telling what program or brushes you use. I assume you're using photoshop. Also, this tutorial will mostly benefit people who already have experience using the program, which isn't a bad thing, it just may limit the audience a bit. Thanks for taking the time out to make this.

I just started colouring my work recently, so this is much appreciated. The airbrush sometimes makes things look fake, but your work has a nice painted look to it.

mero [2006-02-17 10:39:00 +0000 UTC]

hmm, actually the only real problem i find with any tutorial- no one says in the program where to find those brushes

Well done. Clear and concise, and a good way to achieve the painted effect. But it's all in the knowing *where* to paint and where not to, now isn't it?

I'll certainly have to try this technique!
