The pheasant groaned in delight as his beak worked over yet another pillowy slice of cake; his hosts definitely knew their baking, it was a genuine Dansk Lagekage- Danish layer cake with luscious, moist yellow cake atop layers of vanilla pudding and sweet, tart raspberry jam that gave just enough tartness to cut through the sweetness of the cake and pink buttercream icing. So soft, so pillowy and delicious, he scarcely had to swallow, before a paw helpfully reached up to caress his mane of neckfeathers, giving his throat an encouraging stroke to send that entire, sweet beakful right into his feathered belly, so good and fat already, only aided in digesting by a set of paws that dutifully hefted, squeezed, and kneaded every overstuffed inch, keeping the pheasant right on the verge of feeling stuffed, but able to enjoy just one more bite without any real discomfort taking root. A big grin split his beak as the overfed pheasant was almost reminded of a goose, or a turkey in a feed lot this time of the year; how he was eating and being treated nearly twice as decadently!

The chilling thought suddenly dawned on Faisan, ruffling the feathers of his crest; with the reduced gatherings there were certain to be this year, folks would desire something more wee than a turkey to set their Thanksgiving tables with, but... no less plump! And this was the last day to truly get their birds properly stuffed and fattened...
