Description He began his acting career probably in 1901 or 1902. His earliest known performances are from provincial theaters in the 1903–1904 season, playing small roles in several plays and operettas. He went on to Shakespeare plays and other major roles. Moving to Budapest in 1911, he played dozens of roles with the National Theater of Hungary in the period 1913–1919. Although Lugosi would later claim that he "became the leading actor of Hungary's Royal National Theater", almost all his roles there were small or supporting parts.

During World War I, he served as an infantry lieutenant in the Austro-Hungarian Army from 1914 to 1916. There he rose to the rank of captain in the ski patrol and was awarded a medal equivalent to the Purple Heart for being wounded at the Russian front.

In 1917, Lugosi married Ilona Szmick. The couple divorced in 1920, reputedly over political differences with her parents.

Due to his activism in the actors union in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution of 1919, he was forced to flee his homeland.[2] He first went to Vienna, Austria, and then settled in Germany, where he continued acting. Eventually, he traveled to New Orleans as a crewman aboard a merchant ship.

Ahh, there is no one like Mr. Lugosi!! Lovely photo! And it's wonderful to know that he actually acted along with beautiful Conrad Veidt in Der Januskopf! Two of some of the most iconic people in film history!

Cinematographic gems that few people know. Lugosi was not Dracula. It was much more than that. A great actor of the old European style, no doubt.
Veidt ... that great!

Colour really warms up the photo! Somehow makes the Count closer to the eyes (mmm, want to pull out that pocket watch chain in his waistcoat , elegant shiny detail!!!)

Yes, use color filters quite warm, golden, very dim, especially because it enhances the factors that do not stand black and white.
This is my opinion. hehe.

Wow, awesome expression! I remember that part! Did you give it that color? It was originally black and white, right? It looks really really cool! Bela's awesome!

Exactly, give her a gold filter with jewels like this film, to emphasize what the black and white is sometimes not capable of doing. I do not like visible color photos, because they were not made to be viewed in color. ceo therefore not appropriate.
Bela Lugosi is one of my favorite actors!

I agree. The black and white, or as you've done, with a single color, looks very good. If it was in color it wouldn't fit the mood.
And yeah he's awesome!
The classics like Dracula will always be the best movies and true horror.
