Description Contest entry for queenofeagles 's egg hatching contest!

Gem kirins are a variation of kirins, but instead of typical scales they grow mineralized crystals on their backs. The older the invidual is, the larger are the crystals.
The colours of the crystals are present on the backs of these kirins. The coloured fur has different texture too, making it shinier than the rest.
Kirins (or Qilins) have a strong affinity to fire and are able to create flames on their body (they look like deer but are thought to be relatives to dragons). This specific variant has long fur on its neck, tail and around hooves that's easiest to 'ignite'.

Gem kirins are rarely seem but the vitnesses claim the adults to be something around 0,5-1,5 meters in height and 1,5-2 meters in lenght, but these statement are uncertain. They're secretive and shy creatures that choose to live by themselves and avoid human contact. Gem kirins apparently live long (supposedly due slow matebolism). They're omnivourous and in addition they consure stones to grow their gems. The gems have an essential part in the kirins reproduction as females prefer males with larger gems (they're more likely to be malnutritioned).

The egg the kirin hatches from has a thick 'shell' that can be mistaken for a gem stone. Sometimes, rarely have the eggs ended up as a jewels on large pendants or ornaments since they hatch only when the temperature succeeds at least 27 degrees Celsius. Normally the parents' body heat would warm the egg up, but if they end up being snatched and are handled in cool environment they might hatch in the stangest places.

I need to seriously train rocky textures and minerals: this doesn't match my vision nor the egg perfectly
Also... my writing must be horrible to read, full of grammar oddities, but try to hang with it
