you just made my day, I don't have severe autism but I have been diagnosed with it, I try to fit in but sometimes I fail at it, here are that can't cover my autism: my feelings. I cry a lot when i'm sad, even if it is kind pointless. I am pretty sensitive. i'm a bit awkward which isn't completely a bad thing. here are some good things that show my autism: I am keen and smelling and hearing. I can notice odd things easily. I seem to have higher grades than most children my age, etc.

My brother (13) is autistic and has started his first year of high school today. he's medium/severe, in a special education unit and by written standards intellectually 8 years old, but his vocabulary is that of a sixth grader and is actually not as dumb as some refer to him as.
My youngest brother (5) Has just started his first year of school and also has autism, but he is in a mainstream class and only mild level autism mixed with mild asperger's.
I could have mild asperger's but am not diagnosed, 16 years old and i do show some behaviours of these conditions, but i do not let it get to me.

Hey I'm autistic myself so I can relate, one thing about autism is that unless you tell them they won't know your autistic, no outward signs.

as a child, it's a little more noticable in some cases, mot people dont realise my brother is autistic until they have a good conversation with him, he's very emotionally sensitive though.

In some cases that is true, however, there are sometimes times that people have asked me if I knew somebody was autistic and at times I knew them from a group for autistic kids. People who pay close attention and know what the symptoms are and such can at times see that somebody would possibly be autistic, however, they never know for sure. (also kind of depends on the people you hang out with, some of my friends want to do a study on autism and such later on so they pay close attention to it when they meet someone)

Wholeheartedly agree, and whoever calls us retarded is, like, you know, retarded. *that was so well worded you have no idea*
I keep getting people on the interwebs that use it as an insult, I mean, come on, isn't it a compliment to be smart and considerate? ._.
Love it ^w^

And what great strength you show here. Fantastic message. And you have great rhyming capabilities. Love the abab scheme.

Hmm.... I really like this. I have Asperger's myself, and....sometimes (a lot of the time) it messes up my life really badly. Still, sometimes (a surprising lot of the time) I find myself liking having it because I live in a world without lying and with only rare cases of cruelty. I just can't usually pick that stuff up. I like your rhyme scheme and meter a lot, and you seem to have carried them well for most of the poem, though the beat picks up and then drops a little at the end. Really, the only thing I can point out about this piece is that in one line I even slightly like, that I must confess I think you should move the comma to after 'that' so the line will make more grammatical sense. Still, it's your choice. You've got a great style and message - and I really like your icon, too! Rise Against rules!

Personally, I don't think autism is a disorder, just a different way the brain is wired, like everyone else, is wired differently. And I've also noticed that people with autism tend to be really really smart o.o and have alot of heart and feeling, I think it's cool ^^

I don't know. She doesn't have an account on dA, so I'm not exactly sure how you would get in touch with her. Her name is Avery O'Gaerty. She's more of a math and science kind of person than a literary person, but she really likes to read.
