Beautiful work.
The choice of a limited palette works really well and you get a wonderful sense of being in the middle of nowhere with the bear

Thank you so much for the feedback. I always wonder if I limit my palette too much with tea so thanks for your thoughts. That's exactly the feeling I wanted. Maybe lost somewhere, but still safe and tranquil.

You're welcome

I couldn't work with tea....I would either drink the stuff I was painting with or dip my brush in my cuppa

Calmality In reply to Harrisons-Forge [2014-04-07 04:26:32 +0000 UTC]

I thought I'd have that problem too...however if you boil many tea bags like I do you will not mistake it. It is dark and smells pretty bad.
Although, I have dipped by brush in my actual tea cup a few times. XD

I have enough problems keeping my paintbrush out of my brew with ordinary paint water.......I get too focussed on what I am doing...have had to make a fair few new brews lol

Oooh, so lovely! I love how soft and gentle it is; a super peaceful scene. I also love how well you took advantage of the watercolor medium as opposed to fighting against it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Calmality In reply to Oddeum [2014-03-24 03:36:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much for such great feedback! Tea does fight away watercolor when mixed. Glad you think it meshes well despite that

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oddeum In reply to Calmality [2014-03-24 15:40:32 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, I never knew tea fought against watercolors! Is it because its mildly acidic? It looks lovely regardless.
I just meant how some people layer watercolors so much and so carefully that it looks like something you could do in oils; requires a great deal of skill, of course, but it's a waste of watercolors beautifully spontaneity, which you used so well in this painting!

Calmality In reply to Oddeum [2014-03-25 01:03:56 +0000 UTC]

It's something I discovered when I started working. The tea will push the watercolor around and actually pull any watercolor that was laid down previously, out of the paper. Can be frustrating!
I get what you mean and it's a great compliment. I like keeping the watercolor's integrity and natural movement. Thank you again!

Oddeum In reply to Calmality [2014-03-31 14:24:42 +0000 UTC]

Interesting! I find that ink will push around the watercolor pigment in weird ways that can be exciting or disastrous.

You're quite welcome, Miss Calmality!

I really like how simple this painting is, yet at the same time so well executed. Love the contrast between the sharp, clean outlines of the trees and stones, and the way the colours just merge into one another in a semingly careless way.

Calmality In reply to Feidhelm [2014-03-24 03:40:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for taking the time to give me feedback! I was struggling with the contrast of the inked lines and what the tea naturally does. Thanks for your thoughts, glad you like it.
