Because everybody loves puzzles. That one's easy.

I've said it before, but I hope the Layton crossover game with Phoenix Wright has Layton solving completely unrelated riddles to anything that's going on in the middle of a court case! Maybe Nick can slap him this time. Although, I can't picture Layton being slapped, so maybe not.

Always thought that was a weakness of the Layton games how the riddles are just jammed in there, like they didn't even bother trying to come up with scenarios related to the story... like how any other puzzle adventure game on the planet does. It's like some dude is always blocking you on a road and says "Solves this math problem for me". It seems lazy, lolol.

Man Layton despite his appearances knows how to fight, he gets into sword duels and everything. I love Phoenix Wright but he isn't a tough adventurer like Layton. Poor guy gets beat up a lot in his own game but I don't think he's ever thrown a punch himself.

Yeah the first game has its story and explains why all these people are throwing riddles around... but it just doesn't make sense in the other games. Oh well, guess they don't really give a damn about their world's logic, everyone is just insane. Or maybe the ferris wheel in the first game crashed onto Layton and everything since has been in imagination as he lays in a coma in some hospital in London.

He got tased in the first one, bro. That was probably the most ridiculous part to me. It was like, "Okay, now, call the cops..." But I guess Von Karma IS THE LAW. My bad.

Even with a reason for it the riddles still seemed bat-shittingly random. I wish they would have tried a tiny bit harder to tie it into the world. Like the wolves on the raft puzzle that person was complaining about, they could have very well had a guy guarding a river in front of that mansion and be like "Only three of us can fit on this raft to get to the other side, but here's the catch-". Bam, it's tied into the story and it prevents you from advancing. The way they have it now is as cohesive as if you shoehorned a plot into the Brain Age games....... and DIDN'T try to link it to the puzzles.

I like the coma idea though. Layton tossing and turning in his bed going, "Errr...jeeer....UHHHHR...GIANT ROBOTS...ruuuh!"

fair enough, that is a good point. Which is funny because some of the puzzles actually do make sense in the setting, .... well, I'm pretty sure there were a few like that at least, its been so long. Man a puzzle game with a story is a weird idea anyway. Especially when Layton starts fencing his nemesis... and then mean while we have to figure out what path an ant takes up some stupid hill or some shit. Com'on!

Oh lols, don't tell me you actually had to do that in the game. At least Phoenix Wright can usually sort of stick to what's going on.

Luke: Professor...I have to use the bathroom...
Layton: Why, Luke, my boy that reminds me of an extremely complicated riddle!
Luke: Can I use the bathroom first?
Layton: No. Not until you finish it. COMPLETELY. And it's REALLY LONG.

Damn you professah. Damn you...
lol

I'm far too stupid to ever attempt a Layton game again (gave up on the third puzzle of the first game; I couldn't solve that "get the wolf/chicken/etc. across the river" problem back in third grade, and still can't), but I still chuckled far too hard at this.

Aw man that's too bad. The first game is really awesome. Although every time I play a Layton game it just makes me want another Dark Cloud game instead.

I really ought to go back and play those someday...right now I'm most concerned with how Ni No Kuni will do, since I liked a lot of what I saw in the demo but found myself swearing at my AI allies just as I have in other Level5 games (it was bad enough to completely turn me off of Rogue Galaxy).

Dark Cloud 2 is where is at really. Easily one of the best games on the PS2, might even go so far to say best RPG or at least best action RPG on the system. Man that game was just amazing. Oh well.
I couldn't get into Rogue Galaxy myself, I was going in expecting Dark Cloud 3 but with party members but ugh... idk man, I just wasn't feeling it. Its like they tried to make it more action packed but it felt cumbersome. Dark Cloud isn't no Devil May Cry but its simple and fun at least. And no party members! You got your boy with who uses a wrench and guns and can pilot a customizable robot, and then you got your chick who fights with a sword and can shoot magic, but you switched between them. Oh man it was perfect. I really don't get why they never made another game in the series. ugh

I own both and have for awhile, now it's just a matter of getting to the point where I'll sit in one place long enough to play 'em proper! I've sampled both, but the only things I remember clearly are being thirsty a lot in 1 and thinking "Is that Robin from Teen Titans?" in 2.

I couldn't get into 1 myself. The thirst meter and the fact that your weapon breaks permanently kind of made me not want to play it. I mean... maybe one day, I do sort of want to experience it, I just know it wont be as fun as 2 because of the extra chores/stress you have to worry about.
