Very lovely! I am fond of your historic illustrations. Cute, yet accurate. Did Macmillan come to you or did you submit the manuscript unsolicited? I didnt think any big houses took that sort of thing, is why I wonder. : )

They came to me looking for an illustrator for the story. I haven't seen a printed copy of it, but I believe it is some kind of small early reader type book.

That's awesome that they approached you out of the blue. Do you know how they saw your work? Or if you get a contributors copy? I would feel kinda miffed if I didn't get those.

They saw my portfolio on childrensillustrators.com, which is also how I got work for my first published children's book. Although not much has come my way recently, it's been a tremendous resource for me.
(I anticipated getting a copy of the book, but it's possible that I won't. Not sure, really!)

That's pretty amusing. I always thought that site was a light scam or something. Never knew anyone who'd gotten work off there. Ha! Just goes to show, things are never what they seem.
Have you ever put ads into those Illustration sourcebooks that come out yearly? I've actually met people who get work that way, though I'm not sure how reliable it is.
I dearly hope you get your contrib copies. Nothing makes you feel as warm and fuzzy as seeing the hardcopy of your work in print. Though I guess you could just go to B&N or Borders and see it there, even if you don't own a copy.

I love reading books about the west!! My favorite series when I was little was the Little House Series. I love the colors and how everything works together!

This is beautiful (should be read aloud "bee-yoo-tee-ful" for full effect)!

This set of illustrations turned out gorgeous! How long did it take you to do the set?

It was about one week for sketches, a week to draw & color the image to be used on the cover (the one with pa & the buffalo), and about two weeks to draw and color the rest. But I work full time during the week and can illustrate only at night, so I didn't have all that much time...
