Description Magazine cover for my publication class - I spent waaaay more time on the illustration than I did on the design, which was the whole point of the project |D

I'm pretty excited about this class - we get to do a whole magazine on whatever subject we want. Which, for me, means there are a lot of cute mythical creatures in my future <3

Woah! I have a dragon at home that looks almost exactly like the little amber one!!
Her name is Stephanya and she's a bit of a rebel, I suppose you get them in every family, but it's pretty tiring to come home and realise that she's having a fire-blasting competition with the coal-range, especially when we live in a wooden house. Anyway, any tips to help her calm down a bit?
Thanks

Well at that age there's not much that can stem that youthful energy - but a nice long fly around the neighborhood in the morning and a sprig of dragon weed hidden in her food dish ought to leave her happily napping until you get home ;3

Aah, thank you so much! I used to take her flying before the damn vet said I was probably making her hyperactive by doing that ... I mean, seriously! *shakes head* but it will be nice to do that again.
Luckily I feed her about half a cow every day, so the dragon weed should be fairly easy to disguise as just another tendon!
Many thanks

I really like the concept and the baby dragons and griffin are so cute!

XD Zoooh, I'd totally subscribe to that magazine!
If you ever finish making the magazine, make me a copy, and I will buy it! (100% serious) When I have an apartment, I would strategically place the magazine where visiting people would see it and be like, "Wtf mate?!" and I'd be like, "Oh, it's the spring issue, I figured I should expand my hobbies a bit," all casually.

Haha, when I saw this thumbnail, I thought it was a real magazine. But the animals are the best of course. Soooo cuuuuute!

So, can I assume based on this that Narnian dollars are not doing as well as Middle Earth dollars? :3

Well, the truth is that the long, harsh winters in Narnia make it very difficult for our delivery people to service the area - so we have to add on a bit of a surcharge for the inconvenience, of course |3

This is quite an excellent illustration mister...or miss.
Done in photoshop?

Thank you! It's a bit of Photoshop and a bit of Gimp |3

And it's miss X3

Great cover. I do see you put a lot of work into it and the whole composition works for me even though you say you didn't put as much work into it as you should have or wanted to. Most noticable is that the Y is cut off but rather that then cutting of the dragons head :<

Thank you! =3 I did have trouble with that pesky title - I wanted it bigger so that there wasn't that weird pocket of empty space in the corner, but then the dragon would've been covering too much, and, of course, I worked too hard on that little guy to cover /him/ up X3

Your welcome
Hehe, yes it can be a difficult "puzzle" to solve. In some cases some simply do let the text overlap the illustration on the cover but then to that print a clean illustration inside the book. I guess that is a win win situation for those who prefer to show the artwork without any distracting elements.
