Description I was asked to paint the top image without the hubby in it and have the red girl husky looking up. That was the toughest bit since I didn't have a reference of her face looking up but I think I did well. 5+ hours, photoshop 7, Intuos2.

I love the pose and you did a very good job on the head of the red husky, and of course, LOVE those tongues, paws are awesome as well : D
I just gotta say i dislike how much ''white'' did you use on these furs, was it to add extra smoothness on the fur or from the source of light? I do not know but I guess you wanted it to be like it, so it's okay
I've been following you on dA for quite a while and know what kind of wonders you can do with that fur ^^
I'm sorry if you didn't want some sort of ''critique'' I do believe it's helpful for both sides and if you want me to stop I will, no arguments about that ; )

No, I don't mind critique at all. In fact, you're welcome to give me helpful suggestions for improvement any time you like. Sometimes I totally don't see something that another person will (For example, I painted a dog with one nostril open and one closed once. I didn't notice it at ALL till the commissioner asked me why I did it lol). I'm using an old CRT monitor (because they have better colors than the new flatscreens) and that makes my paintings look quite different than they do to you (my colors are deeper/richer so the white does not look as strong to me as it probably does to you). That said, my monitor is closer to how it will actually look when printed.

Oh, okay, that's a relief ^^
Yeah, I also think it's good to hear what others see or don't see on the picture.
I didn't know that about the monitors or at least didn't taught it's be such a difference, so, sorry 'bout that ; )

Most people have thrown out their old CRTs and while htey are not as pretty (the LCDs seem to glow with color) these seem closer to how the image will look when printed (Deeper) so the light colors don't look quite as light ot me. So I mostly paint for print rather than online use but it has given me problems from time to time. And I appreciate any/all critiques

Yeah, that's what I did as well, but mostly because of the amount of space on the desk that it takes, but I agree that it's better to paint for print. : )

how do you do that is so little time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cameoanderson In reply to Atirum [2013-04-22 04:38:42 +0000 UTC]

It's not so hard when I basically am painting a duplicate of a photograph. It's much more time consuming to use references but create an original pose. IN this case I only had to change one head

Do you use a special brush?

cameoanderson In reply to Atirum [2013-04-23 00:13:26 +0000 UTC]

I have a set of fur brushes I got from here years ago. You might want to check for your version of photoshop. A lot of artists give them away for free.
