This is another one of my pieces from my OAC Art class term-project. The project's theme was social comment through surreal photographs.
This was a piece on addiction.
The needle is big and takes up most of the frame, in proportion to the girl on the top - it's huge! it's enormous! this is to show that it's overwhelming, and that it has become the biggest part of her life - the needle has taken control She has done the drugs until the point where the drugs use HER.

Her being in the fetal position is meant to express her reluctance towards her terrible affliction. She wants to break free but she can't - she's trapped, she's stuck, she's confined - there's nothing she can do and nowhere she can go. she is a SLAVE now to the needle.

But the ironic part is... did she not, in a sense, bring this position upon her self? It is likely that she is in this position because of decisions that SHE made long ago. hence the term; VOLUNTARY slave.

or, at least that's what it all meant to me at the time when i made it....
