it was certainly a very photogenic pier. worked better when it was overcast but always a pleasure to visit late at night on the bay there....

I love the loss of detail in the water from the long-exposure. I wish I could do this with movie film. The longest exposure possible with the current slate of cameras (Arriflex) that I am using is 1 second.
That's it.
Great photo.

Oh my Nikon F5 will do a programed 30 minute exposure and I can do bulb which can theoretically stay open forever... but I was referring to motion picture cameras. Movie cameras (film not video) can only expose down to 1 frame per second. And when you play the film back it looks as if time is moving super fast. Time-lapse film footage is shot at 1 fps.
In other words there is no way to capture an image like yours with a movie camera. Many have tried, none succeed.
Sorry if I confused you.
If you look into my gallery I have some 30 minute star-spin photos taken with my Nikon F5. I still prefer 35mm to digital.

Thats the spirit!
I know what you mean, although depending on how much I want a shot, I'll occasionally group swarms of mosquitoes in the bashed and stabbed category.
