Although classed as a "fearsome critter", the squonk isn't the most ferocious thing in America's wilderness. The squonk is a mythical creature famous for being so hideously ugly that it shuns looking at it's own reflection in the water. Originally native to the hemlock forests of Pennsylvania, it has now spread throughout the east coast of the United states. It's preferred habitat are usually well sheltered forests with plenty of hiding places. However, people have reported that these nocturnal animals are encroaching into urban habitats.

Squonks are very ugly creatures: covered in ill-fitted warty skin, rodent-like teeth, snubby nose, sparse bristled hair and whiskers, and a mess of creeping tentacles, these creatures avoid looking at their own reflection in bodies of water (in order not to frighten themselves). They're slow plodding animals that often fall prey to both mythical and non-mythical animals like coyotes, black bears, cougars, birds of prey, snallygasters, wampus cats, sasquatch, and hodags. Squonk's only defense strategy is usually either a strong bite, or more famously to melt into a puddle of it's own tears.
