Description Still Working my way through drawing Ripper in all the MH sets that are out. this one is the pajamas / sleep over set.

I wanted to try a couple of new things with this one, I've been on a quest all year for crisp, smooth line art- some of you may have noticed me asking other deviants how they do it. I've gone so far as to acquire Flash 8 and Adobe Illustrator to get the perfect line art I so crave, but the answer was in front of me all along. with the help of this tutorial and a little patience I got, not quite what I was looking for but pretty damn close. and since I knew I would be inking it section by section I figured why not give colored line art a try while I'm at it?

I have mixed feelings about this. but I'm proud to say this is my first serious attempt at digital line art.

what do you guys think!?

I must say, I utterly ADORE the lineart in this. It really brings out the picture in wonderful ways and I seriously hope you do it more often.
The only thing that bugs me is Ripper's hand. The way it's positioned now, I can't tell if it's behind or in front of her head. Either move the hand to the left a little or just in front of her face.
Beyond that, this has a quality that is almost professional. Keep up the great work!

I agree her hand by her face does look a bit like a clam...oops.

But thank you so much! I hope the more I do this inking thing digitally the smoother I'll get with it.

Ooooh, pretty coloured line art! I think it works very well with your style and the Monster High style I really like Ripper’s sleepover outfit. Very cute, light and the skulls are adorable. It’s also nice to see her ungloved, even if it is dangerous

she figures it's safe to not wear her gloves if shes going to be unconscious XD so unless she has to share a bed theres no danger.

I think you did an excellent job at the lineart! It really is smooth and crisp and just, overall, nice to look at. <3 The coloured lines really suit your style, too, I think, and Ripper and Otto look absolutely adorable. C: Ripper's PJs are really cute, too; I wouldn't mind some like them. xD

It's very good looking! I like how the lineart came out... maybe I'll try iy sometime myself XD
I didn't say this before, but I find Ripper's design very creative! I love the colors she has and wears! Especially the complementary purple-yellow and how well they match her dark skin!
Her orange eyes also fit, in my opinion
Also her hairstyle...

I only feel sorry for her poor feet... wearing high heels all day long would be terrible in my case!!

Haha keep up the lineart practise! It's going great!

The lines look gorgeous! Especially her head/face!
Also, awesome attention to detail with her not wearing makeup, too often I see something of a chick sleeping or getting up or whatever and she has these thickass lashes and eyeliner.
Haven't been commenting as of late but Ripper herself is really cool! I love how she ties in with Mirg. All of her outfits so far have looked super awesome, however painful the MH universe's heels are.
I find I like digital lines better because they tend to look cleaner and you get second chances. And I was stalking the comments, there isn't a way to make the lines taper on one end only, at least in my version (7)

Ha, love the punny title. You also did a phenomenal job on the coloured digital line art! It's quite fitting for this piece. I could picture this image on a Monster High bathroom kit or even pyjamas. Ripper looks adorable in her pyjamas. I love pastel yellow she's wearing. She looks great in it. Otto looks cute as always! Excellent composition!

It's certainly crisp, and I really like the colored outline lines as well to go along with the outfit colors! You know how to improve, maybe if I get some time, I may try it as well. Well done here nonetheless!

Cute outfit! And sleeping Otto's adorable! X3

The lineart looks great! Unfortunately for me I have photoshop elements and for some reason it doesn't have the pen tool. XP So the brush tool is my only option. I'm so glad I have a tablet.

Oh wow, well for what its worth you don't NEED a pen tool your line art is already so clean and crisp! I have a tablet but I'm terrible with it. so I just use the mouse.

I like how there's the obvious checkerboard pattern, but toned down than the usual black and yellow. It's cool, really, because it sticks with the usual suite of this character's choice, but it's changed enough to say there's variety (that, and the color choice gives a softer, more sleepy approach...which is good for pajamas )
Great job, you've done awesome work developing this character's line of looks!

it looks really good for first digital line-art! lord knows i have to try myself, sometime.

i have a suggestion! if you possibly chan, try to vary the 'outside' lines on her body liiiike this - [link] - i know it's a traditional tutorial but the idea remains the same. if you added some variation on thickness/thinness it could really make your work pop out because it seems suited for it.

this is my favorite outfit of hers so far i like the skull ties on her pants

You know I KIND OF put the thick and thin elements into this picture, her hair detail lines, around her ear, Otto's ear and eyes. but I can't figure out how to make it thick one one end and not taper on both ends like the tool does automatically.

I've always wanted to get the thick and thin qualities of line art in my work, my art hero Jamie Hewlett is famous for it.

haha, high-heeled slippers...cute xD For a first time at digital lineart I'd say it looks pretty great, I think maybe slightly thinner lines would look good, but either way it works

that's the thing about Monster High ALL the females wear high heels ALL the time even in sports! and yes even to bed! it's kinda silly when you think about it but they were just too lazy to make new foot sculpts for the dolls (which doesn't make any sense since they make a new set of dolls for every clothing set they make (minus the sports)

For a first try at digital lineart, I'd say it was a succes! It sure looks crisp.

If you'd like more suggestions; In stead of tracing your sketch with the pentool, you could also draw a path AROUND the lines and when you're done "fill path". It's what Sherry taught me when asking about her lineart This way you get the lineart to be more "irregular" in size, yet stil smooth and crisp.
And my new favourite way is re-drawing the lineart in Painter 11. It has a neat tool, the Fine Point Pen which draws smoothly and reacts to pen-pressure (Photoshop tends to make the lineart kinda choppy, in my experience).

Your knocking these out first girl! I love it! You know I was thinking of making a group for all the MH reapers because I know there are several and my first MH OC was also my reaper, so thought maybe there's a different reaper for each part of the world and he's just stereotyped by humans, but it turns out you can only make 2 groups if you're not premium.... I already have 2

Anyway she looks great and the lines are so clean and crisp <3

what can I say? Monster High has REKINDLED the artistic fire within me.

You know I always thought that there was more than just one Grim reaper. I mean ONE GUY collecting souls for the 150,000 who die every day across the planet? madness. it could not be done, not even by an immortal being.

A Reaper Club I don't know there's already do many MH clubs on DA, maybe just a folder in an existing club.

She looks so adorable! I love her checkered PJ! I had problems with getting my line art smooth in the beginning to. I always used the brush tool and even with my tablet, I still got wonky lines (I don't have a very steady hand). So I came across this tutorial [link] (I think it's the same method as yours) and I was like duh!!! I have used the pen tool in illustrator a lot but never in Photoshop XD So now I'm always pleased with how my line art looks ^^

I hear you, my hands aren't steady either. I'm useless with a tablet. so I used the photo shop pen tool and a mouse to get what I have in this image. the bending technique reminds me fondly of MS paint's line tool. (my first art program)
