Because in the future that we first met Silver, there aren't very many people around. Silver did say that life was a struggle to live in Crisis City and since we didn't see any other people around during that timeline, Silver more or less wouldn't have much experiance not to be as naive as he is.
Also I think I want to mention that because of the lack of other people and because they didn't have television or anything, this can also explain why Blaze and Silver so easily trusted Mephiles in the first place. And because Mephiles was offering them some help on their situation with Iblis, they wouldn't think twice about him being evil.
Though, off screen I think Silver would ask why Mephiles didn't have a mouth. I mean even someone not as naive as Silver would ask that.
