See the photos of my construction progress: [link]Bwahahah! Behold the efforts of my March 2nd broadcast: the finalized Shadow Lugia costume design :>
Obviously this is the latest and greatest project that I'm pumping out for this year's annual Pokemon cosplay group: Legendary Pokemon. Unfortunately we don't have as many participants as we did last year with the Eeveelution group, but we've got some awesome costumes coming your way: Groudon of course also being done by me. Rayquaza and Kyogre are joining me as well! As secondary costumes, Toxicroak and my final Pokemon project this year, Armaldo are going to be walking around as well. Update: Deoxys and Jirachi are now canceled.
Shadow Lugia, or Dark Lugia as some call it, is the featured Pokemon of the game Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. It's the only Pokemon that takes on a different appearance in evil shadow form... which only makes it THAT MUCH MORE BADASS! RWAR! >:U
This costume will be sporting some sweet features that you haven't seen in my costumes before. I'm going to be working with shiny fabric to match its skin in the games (not satin anymore, I've upgraded to "ultra cuddle" stretch fur that's got a shine to it). It'll have plenty of foam padding to give it a digitigrade look. The eyes will light up and be evil like that. Of course he'll have a moving jaw because what's my costumes without a moving jaw? XD

hello, may i ask, why does Shadow Lugia have three heels?

3 heels? I'm not sure I'm understanding what you are seeing. Though my guess is this: One thing I was attempting to do to the legs is "digitigrade padding" for the costume to give the illusion that the character is standing on the ball of their feet/toes with their heel in the air. This drawing I did shows it a little clearer of the anatomy I am referring to.

ooh i see now of the digitigrade padding and the way its legs are... thank you ^^ (i'm planning to make a Light Lugia "not normal or shiny.. just Light" (picture :thumb298327078: ) and yes it did clear things up

I absolutely LOVE your Shadow Lugia. It's suh an amazing concept and the way you've sewed it together is SO awesome. ^^
I would love to try and make a Lugia by your concept. If it would be alright with you, of course.
Also, I was wondering. The LED lights you used for the eyes. Can you actually see with them turned on? Since I'm a curious little thing, I just started wondering.

I've seen the video on YouTube that you put up, and I must say, I'm so frigging amazed! That's actually the first successful lugia costume that I've seen, and the "shadow" part makes it even more intresting.
That really looks like ALOT to do, so I hope that you're very satisfied with it. ^^

What's the status of this costume? Did you finish it? I checked the flickr photos but the most recent are from last year. I've seen your other costumes, they're fantastic and I love the jaw mechanism you made for the head and light up eyes, really creepy looking and your tailoring skills are top notch, well done.

Yes I had finished it in June of last year. I have yet to take official photos however since it was finished in a rush job in the hotel room during the convention it was premiered at... So I have a lot of touch-up work to still do.
But if you'd like to see some photos of the final thing, on my flickr account I have hidden the rest of the work in progress photos near the end of my "A-kon 21" album. But lots of great photos taken by others at all the events I've taken the costume to can be found on my Facebook and in my deviantART favorites folder "My Cosplay Groups" .

Wonderful thanks for the info! I've searched for results on YT and seen the vids taken by other people at conventions and stuff, thank you for providing the links as well, glad to see the final product. Attention to detail is spot on as well in terms of adopting a anthro lugia physical style.

I came across a few of your YouTube videos by chance the other day, and noticed you had a DA account.
Your work is incredible. It's seamless (if you don't mind the pun XDD) beauty is truly amazing.
I've always had a bit of a Pokemon obsession, though I rarely show it. Lugia has always been my favorite.
I look forward to seeing the finished result. Keep up the most awesome work!
Also, I was wondering if you have done any tutorials on making masks with movable jaws...I'd like to make a costume, but don't know how to start going about designing it if I don't know how the mechanisms of the mask work >.> (*glares at loooong sentence*) T'would be most helpful indeed!
