Description The Exciting Thing! The one that I promised earlier
I've been really interested in 3D printing for a while, and sculpture much longer than that. A while back I got into 3D modeling and recently I've had time to pick it up again. These are a test run of a few sculptures I ordered printed from www.shapeways.com/   It's so amazing to be able to hold your digital sculptures in your hands This is basically the durable, reproducable medium I've been wanting since I was a kid. And digital sculpture is so efficient and powerful, there's so much you can do with it and I've learned a lot since I haven't had school to deal with.

Aaaand I've opened up a shop ~>  www.shapeways.com/shops/wildca…
This is the perfect way to sell sculptures for me, I've been wanting this forever :U It's way more affordable than I could ever sell traditional sculptures for, and more than one person can enjoy having each work if they want to c: The wolf sculpture I have up right now is around $8, for example. It's an easy way to sell my own original work without having to part with it, since what drives my art is mostly personal interest and I usually want to keep most things unless they were commissions. x'D More is coming soon! I have another shipment of different sculptures coming in hopefully Monday, and based on that I'll see if my next design needs any tweaks before making it available. I'll post updates here! c:

Seen in the photos here are a fairly large model of Rook, a smaller, low-polygon version of the same sculpture, one of Ava designed to sit on uneven surfaces (really just a quick digital "sketch" I decided to print on a whim), and a model of a rock quarry made with digital elevation map data. There's a tiny north arrow but the N is kind of hard to read haha. This material, basically laser-sintered nylon powder, doesn't show details as well as some others offerred, but it's the cheapest and most versatile and I really like the feel of it. It's really like no other material I've felt before. Someday I'll try out one of their higher-detail materials. I'm working on also making models that will print in a different material in full color! 8D

As of yet, only the rock quarry and the lowpoly wolf are available. Not sure if anyone but me would want a tiny 3D printed rock quarry, but hey now at least the option is out there : D The larger model of Rook had a few minor anatomy issues I didn't notice just seeing it on a screen, and I'm honestly not sure what to call the one of Ava, since it isn't really a normal wolf? xD It's pretty cute though and I've gotten several positive comments on it when showing these to people, so maybe once I figure out what to list it as (and fix a couple minor things) I'll make it available too ^^

Since I got a lot of questions about sculpture commissions on my traditional pieces, I'll say I don't know about commissions in this medium yet. I want to get more familiar with it and explore different techniques and such before I do that, plus I'm not sure yet how much I would charge. But It's a whole lot more likely than traditional sculpture commissions! I may offer a few special (experimental maybe?) commissions in it at some point in the future, once I know a little more!

As far as I know this company can ship to most places except Russia for some reason. However if you're in Russia and want one of these let me know! There's a very similar Belgian printing service called iMaterialize I can most likely go through instead.

I just got the small standing one in the mail today and I absolutely love it! I love it so much I actually went back and bought your trotting wolf too!

I really, really love the big standing one, it is gorgeous! Amazing work! These 3D printed sculptures are so awesome!

(By the way, can these be painted?) I do a lot of custom painting on animal models all the time and was wondering if these would hold up to paint.

Aaa that's awesome, I'm so glad you enjoy it! Thanks so much for the compliments (and for ordering!!!)! Man it's so cool to be able to sell copies of sculptures now, I always wished for something like this and I'm glad other people are enjoying it too c:

And actually that's something I've been meaning to try! I have heard they suck up paint so people have had to use more coats, but I'm not sure what kind of paint they were using. I have one model sealed with mod podge and one without, and eventually I'm going to paint both in acrylic and see how they compare. Eventually I also plan on putting out some more wolf figures showing wolf behavior and such (since that one was modeled after my character Rook).

You're Welcome!

I can't wait to paint the two of them. I just got the trotting one in the mail a few days ago and the anatomy is amazing! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Would it be possible to make these for anatomical studies? That would be super cool!!

Oooh yeah, that would be a super neat project! I'd love to do one of muscular anatomy. That'd be fun to try sometime, I'll definitely post it here if I do :U

Hey that's pretty neat! You had to do 3D modeling then to make these?

Thanks! 8D Yeah these are all 3D models I made and sent off to the printer. Most of the work is done in Sculptris then recently I switch over to Blender for some rigging and posing fun

I will definitely be getting one when I can! These are amazing, I love the low-poly ones the most but I can't see me not getting them all eventually xD what program are you using for creating your sculptures?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Canis-ferox In reply to Ramiplss [2016-07-11 01:20:37 +0000 UTC]

Aaa thanks! (And thanks for the fave and follow over on Shapeways too!) That's awesome to hear 8D I'll keep everyone updated over here when I put new stuff up (should be some soon)~ I'm using Sculptris for most of the work, then recently I've been rigging and posing models over in Blender. Both are a ton of fun to play with, but Sculptris is definitely a lot... friendlier haha.

Ramiplss In reply to Canis-ferox [2016-07-11 15:13:34 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! I can't wait to actually get one, they're just so neat~ also really excited to see what else you add! I know I've heard of Sculptris before and I can't remember if I've tried it or not. I've been looking for some kind of 3D program to sculpt things and just haven't found one I like yet.. I might have to look into Sculptris again xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Canis-ferox In reply to Ramiplss [2016-07-17 22:25:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I definitely recommend Sculptris! It's the best free one I've found both for getting a start in 3D and making detailed organic type designs.

This is printed in wsf? It has a really nice texture to it that makes it feel detailed. I've always thought of Shapeway's nylon options as a material for geometric, mechanical designs.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Canis-ferox In reply to Neolexious [2016-06-26 02:32:20 +0000 UTC]

It is! Currently it's the only material I've tried, and I love it. It does great with geometrical stuff too from what I've seen, but it's great for so many different things. These are all polished but I've got a couple of unpolished ones coming in to see if that option gives me better detail without being too rough.
