Description
Father and son. Two leaders of Ōu. Both legendary bear hunting dogs. Gin, the courageous hero of the series Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and his right-minded son Weed, whose story is told in Ginga Densetsu Weed.Instead of just imitating the style of the original series, I tried to make these two to look what trey really are: two silver brindle Akita Inus. I haven't had drawn any dogs of that specific breed before this work, so they might not be that perfect, but hopefully it's somewhat possible to recognise them.
This was one of those works that you just work and work for hours and put so much effort into it while hating it furiously during the whole process. Nothing went really right on this. The background spilled awfully on the dogs and it took me some extra time to repair the damage. Also neither of my two scanners did proper work with this, the scans always turned out messy and blurry no matter I did. Arrjakshdarauh. But after a months of wait to submit this, I don't think I dislike it as strongly as in the beginning. Actually, I kinda like the cold and starry feeling in this.

They look amazing. I love how you made them look more realistic and gave they both silver fun unlike that weird blue they gave Gin in the GDW anime.

Weed is a Kishu Inu/Akita but they are really similar breeds

No, no it doesn't. Although it also doesn't explain why they changed Gin's markings and eye color in GDW either haha. I don't think the creators put a lot of effort in being overly realistic with the designs X3

Yeah. I like his style because it's original, but.. it's way too schematic and it's all but dynamical. His dogs look like puppets when they try to move.

Well, I'm not sure whether you're talking about the animes or original mangas. But personally I find Takahashi's drawings quite dynamical, meaning they have a lot of movement and interesting perspectives on them. Sure the anatomy is highly stylized and nowhere near realistic, it still works in it's own way.

Oh well, I was talking about both styles, ok, anime's is way uglier, (I just can't bear GDW's -w-) but I still find manga's.. well.. rigid. At least that's my opinion :'D
Anyway as I said it's a great and original style.
It's nice to talk about these things, people often say "omygosh takahashi's sooooo awesummmmm he made a manga with corageous and superdogzzzz" and that's sad .-.
