I have to make a note that Shepard rarely ventures into the living room... next page you'll get the hint as to why... But Memories are a strong thing, bringing forth emotions that are either good or bad. In Shepard's case, the memory of when she first moved into a house on Thessia with Liara will always be held dear to her heart.

They're on Thessia?? It's too bad that there weren't more scenic shots. They not let you explore that much in Mass Effect! -_-

my shep was space born sooooo.... yeah. But since that's not really an answer here is a better one. Since alot of stuff happened on earth, like her being there when the invasion happened, watching people die literally everywhere and hearing them scream in the streets... It is were I like to think that her PTSD started to take root. So being there would only be a constant reminder to her thus making it hard if not impossible for her to move on and find a way to cope with her condition.
So she decided to be with Liara who wished to help rebuild Thessia. Since in comparison of the two planets population wise, Thessia took more casualties than earth during the war.
