Description This monster is done.
(has been for a while, but I didn't take photos till now)

I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Every fluff and texture in the feather was done by hand. I worked on it on-and-off between and during class
The tank is a 60/40, Cotton/Poly blend. Everything was drawn with black Sharpie pen. There used to be a breast pocket but I cut it out. I also tested the ink on that pocket and washed it... Nothing faded. Hopefully this won't have gone to waste when I wash it in the machine later.

My favorite view is the second photo from the left. It is the very definition of everything I love about tattoos; I just love how the wing feathers and the curve of the tail feathers fit on the contours of the body.
The only thing I would have changed is I would have liked to extend the primary feathers more onto my back, so there would be more of a cross-crossing of the wings from the back view; it looks a bit empty. But oh well!

Yes, it was hard.

Turn it inside out and wash on delicate or low heat. It's actually the heat that makes it fade, so just don't throw it in the dryer. (sorry -costumer here) Really epic artwork. This is really awesome.

Wow, I never knew that! Do you know how the heat makes the ink degrade (if it's not washed away I assume this is what's happening). I'm glad this shirt is thin, so it should air dry pretty quickly. Thanks for the advice

Not sure why it makes it degrade, but it's the same way with dyed fibers. Heat is needed to dye set inks, but it also fades them after they are set. Usually, the first wash will take off extra dye/ink, and then it shouldn't fade much more than that as long as you don't dry it or use a harsh detergent.

Oh geez, I didn't even think to count... But it was spread over a few hours a day... I will give you a hugely broad estimate, which is 15-30

This is so awesomee ! Though I think it will fade after a few washes, if not starting with the 1st :/ ..I know someone that used to draw sharpie designs on t-shirts and they kept fadingg XP
It probably would've worked best if you used a silk screen to do it.. But since it's already done I'm hoping it stays as long as possible because you would not want all that work to go to waste x_x

Canyx In reply to KatieConfusion [2011-10-08 02:01:47 +0000 UTC]

I'm worried about that! Though I have another tank top that I drew a tribal dragon on long ago... It has certainly faded but it's still clearly there (give it a bit of vintage look ), and the shirt's been going for YEARS. It has holes in it and everything, but I still wear it.
That was 100% cotton though, so my fingers are crossed!

Well, idk..maybe you're just lucky ..or my friend's unlucky? dunno xD haha
But yeah, definitely hoping this one will lastt !

Maybe you could go over it with a waterproof fabric pen. I got one (not that I ever use it) at hobby lobby

*grabbie hands* I would love if you could do a T-shirt with Lugia on it 8|. We will talk about this later. IT WILL BE DONE.

On your preference of time, of COURSE. XDD And much in the future.

I can't tell you how gorgeous this is though, it is amazing, and you went through hell doing it. Very creative, very ingenius, and fucking amazing. Props to you.

Canyx In reply to Rattlesire [2011-10-08 03:08:53 +0000 UTC]

Hm... If I do a Lugia it will probably be semi-realism because the cartoon version of it is too bubbly and white for my tastes (for a shirt design). Sort of like this one: [link]

That day in the future, just send me the article of clothing and I'll be happy to do it

Rattlesire In reply to Canyx [2011-10-08 03:21:35 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely! (Hell, do you think you could do it on a hoodie instead?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Canyx In reply to Rattlesire [2011-10-08 04:14:53 +0000 UTC]

Yep! Though it would be safest for it to be 100% cotton. And a light color fabric.

*Nodnodnod* Yes, I was thinking white or a very faded light blue. I love light blues.

MoogleChix0r [2011-10-08 01:44:23 +0000 UTC]

Very nice. My only warning would be that I've done sharpie on clothing before, and in all cases it usually ends up fading or bleeding, or both, so you might have to go back after a while and re-line some things. Very well done, though.

Canyx In reply to MoogleChix0r [2011-10-08 02:03:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! If it bleeds I will wash it away with my tears of anguish.

Maybe you could go over it with a waterproof fabric pen. I got one (not that I ever use it) at hobby lobby. I don't know how well it would work but being waterproof... you'd think it would last a little longer

I used to use fabric markers but they faded just as fast as sharpie.
