Name Meaning: Naga=Long, leader; to=Gate, counter for cannons

Character Study: Pain's history revealed he once Jiraiya's apprentice Nagato, who lost his friends to war. He grew to believe the only way to stop war was to shock the world into passivity through utter destruction. After Naruto destroyed most of Nagato's Rikudou Pain bodies, he spoke with the young man and was moved to put his faith in Naruto's ability to change the ninja world. He then sacrificed his life to bring back the villagers he killed in the hope of bringing about a better world. His actions allowed him to help fulfill the prophecy of Jiraiya's apprentices changing the ninja world.
