its a metaphor for the ideal figure that women want; wishing they could be the perfect woman yet it also being just out of reach, with the complexities of american society such as fast food and sedentary lifestyles posing as obstacles for women to achieve a perfect figure. the empty space poses as the glass ceiling for women, unable to reach heights as great as men in society and the workforce.
