I called it hybrid, mainly for the fact that the background in this image is as well a fractal, and a totally seperate one at that. So essentially, my computer has put about 16 hours of effort into this deviation

Pretty... but leave the tacky backgrounds alone. Leave it grey or black. The central element is good enough not to warrant any sort of justification behind it.

Yeah... like little unnecessary sparkles and crap. The central stuff is good enough to be enjoyed sans background. BG just cheapens your efforts.

It looks good! I like the delicate web-like fibers in the orb. It works pretty well with the background, too, though if there were just a few purple dots back there, it would work really well.
I hope I'm not nit-picking here...
