I loved Merida and Elinor's relationship in the movie; it was so realistic.

Brave was on Disney channel last night, but my mother closed the T.V and wanted me to do some math work ON A SATURDAY! I just love brave so much i have the game and i finished it in 3 days. And then i played 4 more times. It never gets old

What Elinor did in this scene was uncalled for. She basically treated Merida like she is nothing but someone to marry off for the sake of a kingdom, while Merida tries telling her that she doesn't want to marry any man she doesn't know and that tradition sometimes needs to end and that she is NOT her mother but herself.
While Merida gave her the enchanted cake, I felt like Elinor needed to be changed into a bear to learn her lesson about how she treated Merida and how bossy she was to everyone, it was that behavior that caused Merida to not want to learn about being a ruler and diplomat and that almost made Elinor lose her daughter forever. Only when Elinor saw what Merida can do, what's she's capable of and actually started listening to her and finally accept Merida as the tom boy strong warrior princess she is, Merida was able to listen to her mother and learn how to be a ruler when she calmed the four clans down. Merida learnt how to be a good queen from her mother, and Elinor learnt from her daughter that tradition isn't everything and we must be true to ourselves and follow our dreams, and if Merida is to get married it will be by her own choice and to who she wants as her husband.
They were finally able to connect when Elinor stopped being commanding and Merida lets her guard down and not fear being shut down by her mother again.

Well done! Yes, I feel the exact same about them and their relationship. Heck, since I sometimes experience conflict with my mother like that, I actually predicted that this fight would happen and what words they would say during it. This scene definitely appeared to be the final straw for both of them with their anger at each other. They're both at fault in the situation and have a point in trying to make them listen to each other, but neither one of them can back down and understand the situation through the other person's point of view.

Elinor: I don't believe you! I've just about had enough of you, lass!
Merida: You're the one that wants me to...!
Elinor: You embarrassed them! You embarrassed me!
Merida: I followed the rules!
Elinor: You don't know what you've done!
Merida: I just don't care how...
Elinor: There'll be fire and sword if it's not set right.
Merida: Just listen!
Elinor: I AM THE QUEEN! You listen to me!
Merida: OH! This is so unfair!
Elinor: Huh! Unfair?
Merida: [grabs a sword and swings it around angrily] You were never there for me! This whole marriage is what you want! Do you ever bother to ask what I want? No! You walk around telling me what to do, what not to do! Trying to make me be like you! Well, I'm not going to be like you!
Elinor: Ach! You're acting like a child!
Merida: And you're a beast! [points her sword at the family tapestry that Elinor had been working on] That's what you are!
Elinor: [gasps] Merida!
Merida: [sticks the tip of her sword into the tapestry] I'll never be like you!
Elinor: No! Stop that!
Merida: I'd rather DIE than be like you!
[Suddenly, Merida slashes the tapestry, a line between the images of Elinor and herself. Elinor gasps in shock; Merida just stares at her angrily. Furious at what Merida has just done, Elinor marches up to her]
Elinor: Merida, you are a princess! [She takes the sword from Merida and tosses it aside. She then grabs Merida's bow] I expect you to act like one! [She throws Merida's bow into the fire. Shocked at her mother, Merida runs out of the room in tears] Merida! Merida! [immediately realizes what she's done and pulls the bow out of the fire; however it's already ruined] Oh, no! What have I done? [weeps]
