I built the rail version in Google Sketchup. Can you help me get it ready for Trainz?

No, I do not have permission from the original model makers.

Hey Captain, 131 is coming along great. I just have to redo the chassis and piping then on to the tender.

Now I know that you need permission to release these models. but do you think you can send the Railroad Delorean to me? Then I can go ahead and make it a driveable model.

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-05 22:37:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm making it drivable as my next project. That way, the wheels will be animated as well!

I do need to scale it up a bit as it's currently too narrow for 4ft 8 1/2 tracks. It'll be a bit bigger than the scenery models, but I hope that is alright.

trainman7616 In reply to CaptainKman [2014-01-06 02:46:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh Okay. So how big is it currently? Also the width wont be a problem unless its bigger then the train. I have also posted a new pic to the forums.

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-06 02:59:59 +0000 UTC]

It's not big enough - it sits between the tracks. I'm going to scale it up so that the flanges almost touch the inner surface of the rails. It's not quite there yet.

I saw the picture. I don't know why taking a simple screenshot with Print Screen isn't showing up the colour properly.

It might be just because its in gmax at the moment. But other then that I have no clue.

Now a questions that I am wondering. Would it be possible to make a script that changes the smoke color after certain speeds? I also plan to make an exploded version of the stack and headlight.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-06 03:54:23 +0000 UTC]

I've gone through the smoke thing before. No script is needed! Smoke containers can be set to turn on and off based on the speed of the loco.

I've got a demonstration model I prepared ages ago but never finished properly. I'll tweak it and get it working just right, and when I get the driveable DeLorean done, I will make a demonstration video.

Alright. If you wait about a week I should have the engine and tender fully finished.

Cool, I look forward to it.

One of few American locos I'll use!

Lol! I think I need to make the plow longer though. I still have the chassis and brakes to do. As well as the dropbar on the whistle and pull strings on the bell. The custom cab and camera views will be made again. Though the cab wont be prototypical. I will try to get it close, also wont be animated.

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-06 09:25:11 +0000 UTC]

Aww, I want an animated cab.

With your permission, can I reverse-engineer the cab and make it fully animated?

trainman7616 In reply to CaptainKman [2014-01-06 17:15:09 +0000 UTC]

I dont think you can reopen the Interior.im file once its made. I am going to surely try to animate it though. But if I can then you have full permission to do so.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-06 21:52:59 +0000 UTC]

I can. I know how. I have the POWER!

It's highly illegal unless you give me explicit permission to do so.

I did it to Blue's 'Lion' and 'Thunderbolt' models and now my versions of them have fully animated interiors.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

trainman7616 In reply to CaptainKman [2014-01-07 00:59:59 +0000 UTC]

The interior will of coarse be a seperate model. the only things that will need animated are the whistle pull rope. The headlight switch. Throttle, Reverser, Engine Brake, and Train Brake.

I am thinking of animating the bell and pull ropes for it but dont know how to do that. Same goes with the drive wheels. I have close to no kknowledge of animation. So this model is gonna be a challenge for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-07 05:19:24 +0000 UTC]

I can animate any of the interior controls if you can model them. Maybe some windows and such as well.

Drive wheels with piston rods and bell pull ropes I don't know how to animate either. A ringing bell needs a script as well.

trainman7616 In reply to CaptainKman [2014-01-07 05:47:12 +0000 UTC]

Well I may be able to do the bell. However, I may have to rebuild the engine yet again because as a test, I exported the model to trainz. Half the locomotive either ddisappeared or became invisible.

I will also be going to my sisters for a month starting sunday so the model wont be worked on.

CaptainKman In reply to trainman7616 [2014-01-07 06:19:41 +0000 UTC]

Aah - this is probably a reversed normals issue. Make a thread in the Content Creation section of the Forums with the material settings in Max and a screenshot of the loco in Trainz. Then people using 3DS MAX will able to tell you what the problem is.

Like I said, reversed normals (i.e. normal mapping - the textures) is my guess.

trainman7616 In reply to CaptainKman [2014-01-07 17:31:35 +0000 UTC]

Ya I use simple UVW mapping instead of unwrapped UVW mapping. This engine is just a larger and modified version on of my narrow gauge engines. All I really have to do is rebuild the boiler and retexture everything.

Now all we need is 131. Throw presto logs, Clara, and an unfinished trestle into the mix and we have the famous scene.

CaptainKman In reply to TrainzMan14578 [2013-12-04 04:09:24 +0000 UTC]

#131 is actually being modelled in GMax or 3DS Max by someone!

I forgot their name, sorry.

I'll rip it out of GTA VC when it is released in the next update to the BTTF mod, and convert it to Trainz like these DeLoreans.

Nice work on the DeLoreans; will the BTTF II DeLorean have the ability to hover?

CaptainKman In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2013-12-01 07:12:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToyFreddEnt In reply to CaptainKman [2013-12-01 07:13:49 +0000 UTC]

And I'm guessing the BTTF Part I DeLorean will have the ability to have the hook attached to it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2013-12-01 07:40:21 +0000 UTC]

Yup. And in the stowed position on the right hand side of the car too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToyFreddEnt In reply to CaptainKman [2013-12-02 05:13:56 +0000 UTC]

Of course.

It'd probably be an absolute NIGHTMARE to make the license plate on the first one come off the back of the car AND make it spin on the ground.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2013-12-02 05:20:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes. which is why I won't do it.

They'll be driveable and the BTTF1 version will have the hook as an attachment, but probably nothing more. The hover version will probably be a seperate model. Though I'll see what transpires.

I might be able to get the script for the Time Train working on the car, so it will go to hover mode.

ToyFreddEnt In reply to CaptainKman [2013-12-02 05:32:40 +0000 UTC]

And also, I'm completely fine if you've decided not to release them because they are a GTA conversion so the creator probably won't let you release them. So I won't ask.

Other than that; I wish you luck converting the GTA DeLoreans into Trainz.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2013-12-02 05:37:35 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

It's not really my decision, it's the Trainz rules which i choose to adhere. Thank you for understanding nonetheless.

I have asked for release permission and await a reply.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToyFreddEnt In reply to CaptainKman [2013-12-02 05:53:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh of course, how could I have forgotten that it's the Trainz rules.

But anyway; I hope you get a reply, and even if the creator says no I will understand.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2013-12-03 04:38:19 +0000 UTC]

ToyFreddEnt In reply to CaptainKman [2013-12-04 08:38:44 +0000 UTC]

How much interest has there been in it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CaptainKman In reply to ToyFreddEnt [2013-12-04 08:46:30 +0000 UTC]

I've had a few PM's here and a few emails as well, and a couple of people wanting to know how I do the rips. As if I'll give that info away!

There's about 5 or 6 people, including you, who are ready and waiting for this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToyFreddEnt In reply to CaptainKman [2013-12-05 08:18:41 +0000 UTC]

That's quite some interest; but as for me, even though I'm waiting for this I'm still prepared to accept whatever the answer may be.

And I agree, don't give out the information on how to rip models because if you did then there'd be a whole world of problems.
