I’ve been really interested in the rare phenomenon of when characters have a fluctuating body weight throughout the story, and it being treated as a good thing for them. For the case of Lou here, they start off at a pretty average body weight, although they hate how they look for dysphoria and other such reasons and exaggerate how bad their features are in their head. In the middle of the story it’s a bit difficult to explain but basically through a string of metaphors, the people around them pick away at their health physically and mentally, here it shows that bites have been taken out of them, also symbolism for weight loss someone could go through during a period of poor mental health and abuse. And during the end of their arc it shows them at their heaviest but they’re finally happy because they know it’s the healthiest they’ve ever been, and finally actually taking care of themselves.
