That's not an "I," it's a roman numeral 1.I'm working on an epic series of my heroes/heroines, and it only makes sense to start with The Holy Trinity (Oberst, Reznor & Stump). Conor is the Jesus of that motley crew, by the way, even though people who played against my fictionalized Conor in '06 knew him to be God.. you TLC girls remember, don't you? I know May does.
It occurs to me that I owe some sort of apology to David Crosland.. Hmm...
Moral of the story:
I had a long fucker of a description typed out, but you know what? Leave it at this: The stupid indie kid is tied to my soul, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it.

Unrelated (a little) but his last album was a pleasant surprise. Always nice to hear from one of your favorites.
Hes gone a bit film noir here, those stark shadows go well with the jesus idea though. Dark mysterious Jesus. Got kind of a film noir feel too it too. Pretty cool, man.

I figured that was what they would say. I hate reading music reviews as much as I hate reading art show reviews. It always seems to be about comparing and bitching. No one seems to understand progress is an organic fucking process and the fear of rejection is what makes so many sophomore albums sound just like a rehashed (and rushed) version of the first.
Conversely, when they do step out of their shells and get bad reviews people start to abandon ship. Its in a sad state, the arts.
But, what do I know? Everyone wants to hate something and he is an awful easy target.

i never understood what's so difficult to grasp about artists & musicians making progress. why is everyone looking for ALBUM NAME HERE: PART 2? i know that if every drawing i did looked exactly the same, i'd be a failure.. it's just a matter of realizing that "different" does not mean "bad."
particularly in conor's case, every album is so different that it's comparing apples and oranges. if you like his whole spectrum of music, cool, if not, cool... just don't bitch about how you think he should be composing, y'know?
