Description "The Omega Glory" MIGHT have become the second pilot for Star Trek, instead of "Where No Man Has Gone Before".  The Enterprise encounters the USS Exeter orbiting around the planet Omega IV.  Beaming over with Spock and McCoy, Captain Kirk discovers the ship is abandoned, only empty uniforms and a powdery substance are left on board.  Playing back the ship's medical officer's log, they learn a plague has swept through the ship, killing everyone on board.  Their only hope is to beam to the planet, where the atmosphere seems to provide some sort of protection.

The Enterprise crew runs into the former captain of the Exeter who takes them prisoner and introduces them to the Kohms.  Captain Tracy is convinced Omega IV is a paradise, a garden of Eden for the natives live long lives.  He puts McCoy in charge of researching the longetivity.  In the meantime, the Kohm village is attacked by savages-- the Yangs.

The story then becomes a Cold War morality play--Captain Kirk uses the word Freedom while discussing an escape plan with Spock.  Cloud William, the captured leader of the Yangs, informs Kirk that Freedom is a Yang worship word.

The Yangs escape, and attack the Kohm village, winning the battle.  At the "War Crimes" tribunal, Cloud Willim begin by reciting ""Ay plegli ianectu flaggen, tupep like for stahn –"

Kirk jumps in with the response...
"And to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

A brief tussle with Tracy, and with Spock's life at stake (He looked like an illustration of the Devil) and Kirk manages to prove Good CAN overcome Evil.  He then recites the sacred E'ed Pebnista.. The preamble to the US Constitution.

Kirk informs Cloud William that these words are for everyone, not just Yangs or Kohms "They must apply to everyone or they mean nothing!  Liberty and freedom have to be more than just words"

I thought this would be a good day to remember that.

I've always like the Constitution Class Heavy Cruise from Star Trek, and enjoyed when we saw another of her sister ships. They updated the special effects and that has enhanced the special effects letting us see even more details. The Exeter is found undamaged but it's crew killed by a mysterious virus. The Constellation was seen heavily damaged in the Doomsday Machine. The Lexington, Excalibur, Potemkin, and Hood all appeared in The Ultimate Computer. And in the updated version of Court Martial we get to see the Intrepid. In Star Trek Enterprise "In A Mirror Darkly" we find out what really happened to the Defiant.

One of my favorite scenes was McCoy saying something like " in a battle between good and evil evil usually wins unless good is very very careful "

Interesting segmentation on the nacelles.  Lighting effect?

I liked this show, but even as a kid I wasn't sure of the good is stronger than evil in combat theory.  I did enjoy the scene where Kick is tired from fighting and Spock is in the other cell calmly commenting on the yangs strategy.

That episode was cheesy, and Shatner chewed that scenery.  But I liked it
