I have that same lens for my T2i and I just got a piggyback mount for my Celestron. I want to come close to this (although I doubt I will). How many and how long where your exposures?

actually I was wrong about the exposure time. I just had a look at the original (which still has the exif data) and it was a 110 second exposure.

No worries I always seem to play around with the iso and times anyway, just amazed you go this out of a 50mm I have not tried that yet.

Single three minute exposure. Stop the lens down to F/4 or so and as long as your polar alignment is ok then there is no reason why you can't do the same. It's a great lens for the price.
