Oh it takes time, no worries! Just keep experimenting
One big thing to keep in mind. The object glowing will always be brighter than the glow color c:
To try out a few easy things, draw a white circle and underneath it, a glow in any light color. Play around with it and you'll end up with some funky looking glowing circles or stars or whatever you wanna call them. But yeah!

For a harmonious picture, color wise, you want to shade using colors from the physical background the character is in.
So yes in this case! And if your landscape is green then yes!

This is awesome~ We really love the colors you used, and how you did the lighting from the fire~ We also really like the pose, and how there seems to be a glow around them~
