I purchased this issue of Dragon just for this illustration! It's so cool to see your name in it. I have a question for you: when they need a particular monster drawn do they give the artist the description first (if so, how much info) or does the artist submit the artwork and they base the Description on that illustration? I have been wondering this for a long time.

Nice design! Congrats on the Dragon credit, as well... you're really inspiring me to punch up my own RPG work, and try and attract some new clients. Has the market been treating you well?

Eee! thanks for the comments.
Seems like the market's been slow for everyone...unless you're willing to spend half your working time relentlessly chasing down gigs. You literally have to pound the pavement and hound as many art directors as you can in order to get work; there's so many other artists out there. :/
But you've got the chops! If we all keep working on improving ourselves we'll be fine in the long run. :}

Yeah, I admit I haven't done a lot to really draw in clients... Kenzer & Co. throws me a bone every so often, and I had been doing some nice work for Mystic Eye until that deal got hung up in the usual financial quagmires. I'd love to do some White Wolf work, espescially for Exalted, but I'd need to go pound on their door for it... I'm not even sure if Brian Glass is still the AD for that series or if it's someone new.
And of course, the almost complete lack of color work in the portfolio isn't helping... all the bigger publishers (and their sweet, sweet money) want full color work.
I guess it's because I already have a full-time art job... I'm not hungry enough. You gotta be hungry to make your way up in the freelance ranks.

This is gorgeous. Turtles aren't something you see a lot of in anthropomorphic art, and this one's done beautifully. Very realistic, and I adore that patterning on his chest and belly plates. The gnarly and natural look of his trident makes it seem like it almost grew that way, and fits him to a T. Fantastic.
