Description Firstly - SORRY FOR THE UNGODLY FILE SIZE. This was designed for "book format" and I didn't want to upload each of these seperately. I might break it up into two pieces if there are complaints.

From the last semester. Hate it now. Except for a few panels. Might do over.

I think this is pretty great. But I totally understand the self-criticism thing; it's easier for the artist to find the 'flaws' (usually little more than a line that is out of place, but otherwise unidentifiable) than for the reader. Nevertheless, I quite liked this.

Thanks. I think it's going to get re-made actually, in a more comic page style format. So then I should be able to fix the things that I didn't like about it.

I'd like to but since I haven't started drawing it yet - it's a little soon to think about that.

Oh man, I can't wait to graduate, myself; I'm so envious of how you guys are out in the 'real world', doing real world things... Does that even make sense?

Yes I get you but the job market is pretty crap right now so it's not Alice and Wonderland out here. It's more like "Oh thank god I don't have any assignments to turn in but boy I wish I had something else to eat besides Ramen noodles and a label-less mystery can from the bargin bin at Save-a-lot."

justjingles In reply to carcadann [2010-09-17 13:57:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's true; I hope that soonish the economy and job market starts to turn around...

Beware the mystery can! XD (It might give you magical powers.)

Oh, also, the last panel puts me in mind of Quentin Blake, who`s illustrations I have loved since I was a little boy.

carcadann In reply to exquisiteoath [2010-07-29 13:09:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

And I looked up Quentin Blake. His art looks very familiar but I don't know why that is. I can't remember reading anything he's done. I did find this ----> [link] on his website which was really cool and a mood booster. Thanks for alerting me to him!

exquisiteoath In reply to carcadann [2010-07-29 13:16:38 +0000 UTC]

Blake was one of the people who really turned me on to creativity. I was raised on the Roald Dahl books and I honestly can't say if I was a bigger fan of the art or the words.

exquisiteoath [2010-07-29 00:51:11 +0000 UTC]

What a perfect metaphor. I was a country boy and ended up in a tin can washed down the drain too.

But the good news is, you can find magical things in the sewers and they will return you to giant size and send you back out to the country.

The artwork, I think, adds something for it's water-colour imperfections. Far too many stories are told in big bright Technicolor these days and sometimes that works, but sometimes you just want simple colours and innocence.

Your old trash, is my new treasure!
The first three images are my favorites. Damn ear owls! So annoyingly cute.

lol Thanks. The proffessor I was doing this assingment for kept harping on me about why I was drawing the owls and what was their significance and I finally had to tell him "I just want to draw owls damnit!"

I like it! The art's not up to your current standard, but I love the idea. It also scares me slightly, because I'm goin' off to college in a year, myself. I've actually been looking into VCU, coincidentally.

carcadann In reply to FrostedSwitchblade [2010-07-29 12:50:53 +0000 UTC]

Ah and PS: If you have any questions about VCU I'd be glad to answer them or link you to some other people on Devintart who did. There was ALOT of stuff I wish someone had told me before I went.

FrostedSwitchblade In reply to carcadann [2010-07-29 19:27:46 +0000 UTC]

carcadann In reply to FrostedSwitchblade [2010-07-29 12:40:44 +0000 UTC]

Well my issue was more urban vs. rural than anything to do with VCU. When I got to Richmond I was like "Okay. I've gotten on to this public bus but I don't know how to get off of it."
