If you're a serious merch collector who keeps everything in it's original packaging and then keeps that in a temperature controlled, sealed cabinet or display case... this might not be your day.

So I saw this beaten up metal Enterprise in a comic shop and bought it as a project. Very cheap as it happens. Given the size of the deflector I decided this would be the ship as seen in The Cage and then I got thinking... it's not the most accurate model so I decided to restore it as the Republic - that ship being a much older Constitution Class. I replaced the bussard collectors, removed, painted and aligned the deflector, bleached the plastic saucer top white again, painted the turn control on top of the saucer, added a bridge but kept it simple like the rest of the toy, added a sensor dome to cover the screw on the underside of the saucer and made a hybrid Cage/later episode impulse vent which I'm not too happy with and will do a better one some day. The big saving grace was finding someone on ebay who makes replacement stickers for the toy. I removed the tatty originals and cleaned up the nacelles. The seller was also willing to customise the new stickers for the Republic as opposed to the Enterprise. The original paintwork is in good condition so I decided not to repaint the entire thing. I also experimented with an alternative to the original bridge and an impulse crystal to fill the hole where the ammo was loaded.
