This is brilliant. You said this is a quick sketch and it came out brilliant. It would take me hours to draw that and mine would never come out as well as that.
Brilliant

I really think this is wonderful, I like the simplicity of your portrait.. it doesn't scream cartoon to me, more so comic book like... does that make any sense? Anyways... I think it's awesome as is all your work and I enjoy seeing you upload.

Personally, I think this is what people hope to achieve after learning both the world of realism and the world of cartoon. It's funny how you're wanting to head in the direction of realism, but you're drawing what realistic artists wish they could simplify faces into. I like it a lot. Great work! More, mmk?
I know you wish you had the classes, but you can achieve similar things on your own with the help of a decent library or spending hours drawing from life in coffee shops, or even drawing people that pass by the window of your mom's gallery. Most of learning in art classes comes after personal experimentation at home. Once you draw and draw on your own for hours, you're able to present any questions that arise, as well as finding new techniques for the way things could've been done instead. Most of art classes are what we call "work" days, where the teacher presents the next project and we spend classes independently researching and drawing. I have yet to be in an instructional class that shows you how to use media, how to draw realistic, etc. It's just a series of trial and error that I think you could achieve with the help of Deviantart. Critique is what makes an artist stronger. Since you take no offense to people knocking your art, ask people to be brutal and take it into consideration when you make each piece from there on out.
It's like a spiritual life. Or life in general. You just get better over time. And your art/style/etc. is FOREVER changing, sometimes so slow it seems backward, and other times so fast that you're constantly zoning out from daily responsibilities to get some scribbles down.
I'm proud of you, though, for not giving up just because you didnt have the chance to take art classes in the past few years. I think art really is a passion for you and drawing realistic, shying away from anime/furries/etc. will probably give more personal meaning in each piece. I know art is all about pouring emotion into it, but I think you'll grow more attached when you head in a direction more condusive to your happiness, especially if anime is boring you.

reminds me of how i draw now! i like the inbetween realism-cartoony style, but i wanna lean more towards realistic stuff. i'm sick of anime.

Yeah, i'm really stick of the stigma that goes along with "anime" and "furries" too
and you're right, it is kinda like how you draw- except you pull it off and i don't even XD

You've done a great job. I still have a horrible time drawing realistic people.

realism is difficult especially if all you've drawn is cartoonish people. In my art class I had, and still have, a difficult time. He paired us together then told us to draw one another. It's really hard because most of the features of the face really don't have lines, you can only show them by shading.. I'm not liking it much. XD And I still have two more classes of this stuff. lol.

I wish I took art classes to have someone help me and give me better ways to draw- I haven't taken an art class since high school, and i hate to say it- but I graduated like 5 years ago.
Good luck though- hopefully one day we'll both be able to do realism XD

XD Yesh. I have to take art classes because well I'm an art major.=3 I can't wait until I take life drawing because I need to work on getting the proportions of the body right. =\ My poor characters always look weird because I just can't get the proportions right. XD I've actually had dreams of them chasing me because I can't draw them right. lol
