Description Here it is.

I drew this image ages ago and Kay Holt from Crossed Genres magazine asked if she could use it for a cover.

It's called Marshmallow Cat because I wanted to do a ghost or monster in the style of the old Real Ghostbusters toy range, which had some amazing designs, but also mix it with a huge Godzilla type thing like my previous Megasonic image [link]

It ended up looking like Mr Stay-Puft mixed with a cat.

You can see the cover here on the September 2009 issue(10) >>> [link]

Double wonderful...the art, and the fact you can't see his genitalia.

Ha haaa. That's the thing though, I imagined him more as a mascot suit brought to life than an actual creature. I was steps away from drawing seams up his sides.

Cheers. Filters help. I mock up movie filters by using the multiply function in PS7.

Cheers. I'm gonna have to see if it grows on me. I'm unsure at the moment.

It should, because it's cool.
What is it about it that you're unsure about?

A lot of mistakes due to a last minute rush on. I'll point out one. Look at the tongue and teeth of the monster...

See.

Hi Jim, it's Bart from CG. Just wanted to let you know: a lot of people said that the tongue/teeth thing was awesome and added to the surrealness of the art.

Seriously, "Marshmallow Cat" has been one of our most popular covers, possibly only rivaled by the issue 7 cover. A couple of writers whose stories were in the issue wrote posts gushing about it, and then added "Oh yeah, and my story's in there too..."

Hi Bart.

Ha. Bless 'um. Glad it's liked by a lot. I have an excuse for his big cheesy gob, though... The cat has multiple rows of teeth like a shark. We are seeing his top sets of teeth there and his bottom sets are hidden.

Phew

Oh, right! That doesn't make sense.
Though I wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't mentioned it.
But yeah, I can see why it would annoy you.
I go insane for a little detail like that, even if nobody but me can see it.

I'm used to it. Being a quick turn-around illustrator pisses me off at times.

Cheers. I thought I'd cocked it up a bit, myself. But I won't comment. You'll notice then too.

Cheers, Liam. I really can't be arsed though. I'm pissed off and bored stiff with illustration and thinkin' of jacking it in for good.

Don't you dare, we need you. Plus the mundanity of working in the "real" world is far worse.

Maybe you just need to cut back on the soul-destroying commercial stuff and do more personal stuff. You are still enjoying drawing I can tell from the effort you are putting into stuff like the X-men pieces.

Nah, man. There's no money in this shit. All I get is the educational bullshit lately. I've given my agent an ultimatum. Get fun shit in or I walk. So far it looks as though I'm gonna be puttin' my shoes on. Ha ha.
